Quick guide from the manual
This document provides essential instructions for operating the Ariete 1389A coffee maker. It covers initial setup, brewing coffee (ground or pods), preparing cappuccino, and routine maintenance. Always ensure the machine is placed on a stable surface and that the voltage matches your local power supply.
Device description
Key components include the filter holder (A), removable water tank (G), Maxi Cappuccino device (H), steam dispensing knob (M), boiler temperature thermometer (P), and coffee dispensing switch (Q).
First start-up
- Wash the water tank and fill it with fresh, cool water (max 1 liter).
- Ensure the suction tube is inside the tank and the tank is properly seated.
- Plug in the machine and press the On/Off button (J).
- For the first use, run at least one cup of water through the hydraulic circuit by placing a container under the coffee spout and Maxi Cappuccino device, then turning the coffee switch (Q) to the coffee position.
How to make coffee
Using ground coffee: Insert the dripper, silicone disc, and filter into the holder. Add coffee, press lightly with the provided presser, and lock the holder into the machine. Wait for the boiler temperature light (N) to turn on before brewing.
Using pods: Use the 1-cup/pod filter. Place the pod in the filter, center it, and lock the holder into the machine.
How to make cappuccino
Turn the steam function switch (O) to the steam position and wait for the boiler light (N) to turn on. Place a container under the Maxi Cappuccino device and turn the steam knob (M) to release steam. Immerse the wand into the milk and open the knob again to froth.
Cleaning and maintenance
Regular cleaning is essential for machine longevity. Never wash components in a dishwasher. Clean the filter holder, silicone disc, and Maxi Cappuccino device regularly under running water. Use Ariete COFFEE CLEAN detergent tabs or simple dishwasher detergent tabs every 3 months to deep clean the filters.
Troubleshooting
If the machine does not dispense water or steam, check the water level and ensure the tank is properly seated. If coffee leaks from the filter holder, ensure you are not using too much coffee and that the filter holder is properly locked. If the coffee flow is too slow, the grind may be too fine or the coffee too tightly pressed.

Practical help
Common problems
Check if the tank is properly inserted and water is above the minimum level. Air may have entered the circuit; repeat the initial setup procedure.
Check water level in the tank. If the steam exit hole is clogged, unclog it with a pin.
Too much ground coffee may be preventing the filter holder from locking properly. Clean the coupling seat and use the correct amount of coffee.
The filter holes or the perforated disc may be clogged. Clean them or descale the machine. Also, ensure the coffee grind is not too fine and not pressed too hard.
Before use
- Check that the domestic mains voltage matches the machine's label.
- Place the machine on a flat, stable surface.
- Wash the water tank before first use.
- Fill the tank with fresh, cool water (max 1 liter).
