The FRITZ!Box 7490 is a router that supports wireless LAN, DECT telephony, and DSL connections. To get started quickly, connect the device to power and your DSL line. You can connect wireless devices using the WPS button on the router. The user interface is accessible via any web browser at http://fritz.box.

Safety instructions

  • Do not install the FRITZ!Box during an electrical storm.
  • Disconnect the device from power and the internet during storms.
  • Ensure the ventilation slits are never obstructed.
  • Do not place the device on heat-sensitive surfaces.
  • The device is intended for indoor operation only.

Installation

Determine your connection type to proceed with the setup:

  • DSL and landline: Follow the orange path in the connection diagram.
  • DSL only: Follow the green path in the connection diagram.

Connect the DSL and telephone cables according to your specific connection type (Analog or ISDN/RNSI/RDSI). Connect the device to electrical power; the Power/DSL LED will begin flashing.

Connecting devices

Wireless LAN (WLAN)

You can connect wireless devices using WPS:

  1. Click the WLAN icon in the Windows taskbar.
  2. Select your FRITZ!Box 7490 network and click Connect.
  3. Press the WLAN/WPS button on the FRITZ!Box until the WLAN LED flashes.

DECT Telephones

You can register up to 6 cordless DECT telephones:

  1. Put your DECT telephone into registration mode.
  2. Enter the PIN 0000 on the telephone.
  3. Press and hold the DECT button on the FRITZ!Box.

User interface

The FRITZ!Box has a user interface for device settings. Open any web browser and enter http://fritz.box to access it. You can also access detailed online help by selecting the Help button within the interface.

LED status indicators

The LEDs on the front panel provide status information:

  • Power/DSL: Flashing indicates connection is being established; solid indicates ready for operation.
  • Internet: Indicates active telephone connection via Internet.
  • Fixed Line: Indicates active telephone connection via landline.
  • WLAN: Indicates wireless network settings are active.
  • Info: Indicates system status, updates, or errors (red indicates an error, open http://fritz.box to troubleshoot).

Common problems

WLAN connection fails

Ensure WPS is active on the router and the device. Press the WLAN/WPS button on the router until the WLAN LED flashes.

Power/DSL LED is flashing

The connection is currently being established or has been interrupted. Wait for it to stabilize.

Info LED is red

An error has occurred. Open a web browser and enter http://fritz.box to view the error details.

  • Check if you have a DSL and landline connection or DSL only.
  • Ensure the ventilation slits are not obstructed.
