Table of contents
Product Overview
The Laguna Pressure-Flo is a sealed pressure filter with an integrated UV-C clarifier, designed for mechanical and biological filtration in outdoor freshwater ornamental ponds. It is suitable for water temperatures between 4°C and 35°C. The system works in tandem with a solids-handling pump to trap debris, convert toxic fish waste, and inhibit algae growth using UV-C radiation.
Installation
Choose a firm, level location for the filter, protected from direct sunlight and flooding. It can be placed above ground or partially buried. Ensure the filter is at least 1 meter from the pond edge and that the lid is accessible for maintenance. Connect the inlet from the pond pump, the outlet back to the pond, and a drain hose for maintenance using the provided universal click-fit couplings. Ensure all hoses are secure and avoid sharp bends.
Operation and Backwash Cleaning
The filter features a unique backwash-cleaning system that cleans the foam filters without opening the unit. When the cleaning indicator shows the filter is clogged, turn off the pump, connect a drain hose to the drain outlet, set the mode selector to drain mode, and turn the pump back on. Slide the cleaning handles up and down to dislodge debris, which is then flushed out through the drain. Once the water runs clear, return the selector to filtering mode and close the drain outlet.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is essential for optimal performance. Periodically wash or replace foam filters and clean the biological media. The UV-C lamp should be replaced annually, ideally in the spring. To access the lamp or quartz sleeve, disconnect the power, remove the UV-C head, and carefully disassemble the retaining flange. Handle glass components with extreme care. Never use soap or detergents for cleaning, as these can harm fish.
Safety
Always disconnect all electrical appliances in the pond before placing hands in the water. The filter is not submersible. Ensure the electrical connection is protected by a residual current device (RCD) or ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30 mA. Do not operate the UV-C lamp if it is removed from the filter housing, as direct exposure to UV-C radiation can damage eyes and skin.
Troubleshooting and Storage
If the filter remains clogged after backwashing, perform a full manual cleaning of the foam and biological media. In winter, the unit must be protected from frost; drain the water, remove the filter from its installation, and store it in a dry, sheltered place.
