Product Overview

The LANCOM 1640E is a high-performance VPN router designed for professional network environments. It features a robust synthetic housing, a fanless design for silent operation, and supports wall mounting or rack installation with optional accessories. The device is equipped with multiple Gigabit Ethernet ports, a USB 2.0 host port, and a serial configuration interface.

Installation and Setup

Before initial startup, ensure the device is placed in a well-ventilated area. Keep all ventilation slots clear of obstructions and do not place objects on top of the unit. For desktop use, attach the provided adhesive rubber footpads. If wall mounting, use the appropriate drilling template. The power supply must be connected to a freely accessible socket using the supplied 12 V DC adapter with a secure bayonet connector.

Interfaces and Connections

• WAN Interface: Connect to your modem using the provided Ethernet cable with dark green connectors.
• Ethernet Interfaces (ETH 1-3): Use the cables with kiwi-colored connectors to link PCs or LAN switches.
• USB Interface: Supports USB printers or storage devices.
• Serial Interface: Used for configuration via an optional serial cable.

LED Status Indicators

The front panel provides real-time status updates via LED indicators:

• Power: Indicates device operational status, LMC pairing, or hardware errors.
• Online: Shows the status of the WAN connection.
• WAN/ETH/VPN: Provide specific feedback on link activity, data transmission, and VPN tunnel status.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

The device includes a reset button. Pressing it for up to 5 seconds triggers a device restart. Pressing it until all LEDs flash performs a full configuration reset. If a hardware error is indicated by the LEDs, ensure all cables are securely connected and the power supply is functioning correctly. The device is designed for high reliability with a high MTBF.
