Product Overview

The Roberts Heat Bond Iron is a professional-grade tool designed specifically for melting adhesive on Heat Bond Carpet Seaming Tape. It is intended for indoor use only. The iron features a durable fiberglass-filled nylon handle, a non-stick coated die-cast aluminum base, and an insulated stainless steel heat shield to ensure safe and efficient operation.

General Safety Rules

To prevent electric shock, fire, or serious injury, always read and understand all instructions before use. Keep the work area clean, well-lit, and free from flammable liquids or gases. Do not expose the iron to water or damp conditions. When operating, stay alert, avoid loose clothing or jewelry, and wear gloves. Always avoid touching the heat shield or the base plate during use.

Operation and Temperature Control

To use the iron, place it in its holder on a solid surface. Plug it into a 120-volt outlet and set the thermostat control on the front of the handle to the desired temperature. The indicator light on the handle will remain red while heating and turn green once the operating temperature is reached. For Roberts Heat Bond tapes, a setting of 2-3 on the thermostat knob is recommended. Always test the iron on a piece of scrap tape to ensure the adhesive melts correctly before beginning the seam.

Maintenance and Care

The base plate features a tough non-stick coating for easy cleaning. To preserve this finish, always place the iron in its holder when not in use and never clean the base with wire brushes, knives, or other hard materials. Clean the iron after every use by rubbing the base over a piece of clean scrap carpet while the iron is still hot. Do not place the iron on concrete or other hard surfaces. If the iron requires repair, take it to an authorized service center.

Extension Cords

Only use indoor-rated extension cords with an electrical rating higher than the product's rating. Inspect cords for damage before use and keep them away from heat and sharp edges. Always disconnect the extension cord from the power source before unplugging the iron.
