The Sony FE 14mm F1.8 GM (SEL14F18GM) is a high-performance, wide-angle prime lens designed for Sony E-mount cameras with a 35mm format image sensor. It features a fixed lens hood, an aperture ring for manual exposure control, and a rear filter holder for specialized sheet-type filters.
Safety Precautions
Warning: To prevent fire or electric shock, do not expose the lens to rain or moisture. Never look directly at the sun through the lens, as this can cause severe eye damage or blindness. Keep the lens out of reach of small children to avoid accidents.
Notes on Use: Do not leave the lens exposed to direct sunlight, as focused light can cause internal damage, smoke, or fire. Setup and Operation
To attach the lens, align the white index on the lens barrel with the white index on the camera mount, insert the lens, and rotate it clockwise until it locks. To detach, press the lens release button on the camera and rotate the lens counterclockwise.
Focusing: Use the focus-mode switch on the lens to toggle between AF (Auto Focus) and MF (Manual Focus). In MF mode, rotate the focusing ring to adjust the focus. The focus-hold button can be used to cancel AF during operation on compatible camera models.
Exposure Control: The aperture ring allows for manual adjustment of the aperture between f/1.8 and f/16. Aligning the ring to 'A' allows the camera to control the exposure. For movie recording, the aperture click switch can be set to OFF to silence the aperture ring.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
If the lens gets dirty, use a lens blower to remove dust and wipe with a soft, clean cloth. Do not use organic solvents like thinner or benzine. If the lens is brought from a cold environment to a warm one, condensation may occur; store the lens in a plastic bag until it reaches room temperature to prevent this. If you hear a rattling sound when the camera is off, this is normal and not a malfunction.
