Quick guide from the manual

The Thermorail DSR6BN is a 12V dry element electric heated towel rail. It must be hardwired to the supplied transformer by a qualified electrician. The rail is designed for drying and gently warming towels, not as a room heater. Ensure the transformer is installed within 2m of the rail in a ventilated area.

Installation

Warning: Connecting the rail directly to mains power will cause irreparable damage. Always use the supplied 12V transformer.

  1. Power Off: Switch off the mains power before starting any electrical work.
  2. Transformer Setup: Install the transformer in the ceiling or wall cavity (max 2m from the rail). Ensure it has adequate ventilation and is accessible via an access plate or switch.
  3. Mounting: Measure and mark bracket positions, ensuring they are level. Drill 6mm holes and insert wall plugs. Fix brackets securely.
  4. Wiring: Connect the rail to the transformer. If installing multiple rails, they must be wired in parallel.
  5. Final Fix: Position the rail over the brackets, connect the cable clips, and secure using the provided grub screws and Allen key.

Operating Instructions

The rail heats up quickly, with warmth felt within 5-10 minutes. It reaches an optimum operating temperature in approximately 30 minutes. Without a towel, the surface temperature is around 35°C; with a towel, it can reach 50-55°C. Drying a towel typically takes 3-4 hours, depending on ambient temperature and towel dampness.

Safety and Care

  • Install at least 600mm above the floor to avoid hazards to young children.
  • Maintain a 300mm clearance from permanent fixtures.
  • Do not use the rail to hold items contaminated with oil, petroleum, or dry cleaning fluids.
  • Clean only with a soft cloth and non-abrasive cleaning agent. Avoid harsh scrubbing or acid-based products.

Practical help

Common problems

Rail does not heat to full temperature

Ensure the transformer is not located further than 2m from the rail to prevent voltage drop.

Damage to the element

Ensure the rail is wired to the supplied 12V transformer. Direct connection to mains power will cause irreparable damage.

Before use

  • Verify all parts are present (rail, transformer, cables, screw kit, Allen key).
  • Ensure you have a cross-head screwdriver, spirit level, tape measure, and 6mm drill bit.
  • Confirm the installation location allows for 600mm clearance from the floor.
  • Ensure a qualified electrician is available for the hardwire installation.
  • Check that the transformer has adequate ventilation.

Images and diagrams

  • The wiring diagram shows the transformer connected to the mains via a switch/timer, with the 12V output connected to the towel rail.
  • The mounting system diagram illustrates the sequence of wall plug, bracket, and screw assembly.

Model compatibility

  • Multiple rails must be wired in parallel.
  • Mounting brackets for models DSC6, DSP6, DSP6B, and DSP6BR may look slightly different.
