Quick Guide from the Manual

This manual provides essential safety, operation, and maintenance information for Briggs & Stratton 080000, 090000, 093J00, and 100000 series engines. Always check the oil level before starting. Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. For starting, identify your engine's starting system (ReadyStart, Choke System, or Primer System) and follow the specific steps provided in the manual.

Operator Safety

Read and understand the manual before operating or servicing the unit. Be aware of hazards such as fire, explosion, toxic fumes, and hot surfaces. Always operate the engine outdoors and away from windows, doors, and vents to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Never use pressurized starter fluids.

Features and Controls

Refer to the figures in the manual to locate engine controls, including the fuel tank, air cleaner, starter cord handle, dipstick, and throttle/choke controls.

Oil Recommendations

The engine is shipped without oil. Use Briggs & Stratton Warranty Certified oils or other high-quality detergent oils classified for service SF, SG, SH, SJ or higher. 5W-30 Synthetic oil is recommended for most outdoor power equipment. Check the oil level before each use and add oil if necessary, but do not overfill.

Fuel Recommendations

Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON). Gasoline with up to 10% ethanol is permitted. Do not use E15 or E85. Mix an alcohol-free fuel stabilizer with the fuel to prevent gum formation and corrosion.

Starting and Stopping

Follow the specific starting procedure for your engine type (ReadyStart, Choke System, or Primer System). To stop the engine, release the stop lever or move the stop switch/throttle control to the STOP or OFF position.

Maintenance

Follow the maintenance schedule to ensure optimal performance. Key tasks include changing the oil, cleaning the air filter, servicing the cooling system, and replacing the spark plug. Do not make unauthorized adjustments to the carburetor or engine speed.

Storage

If storing for more than 30 days, use a fuel stabilizer or drain the fuel system completely. Keep the engine level during storage.

Troubleshooting

If the engine fails to start, check the oil level, fuel level, and spark plug. If the engine is flooded, set the choke to the OPEN or RUN position, move the throttle to the FAST position, and crank until it starts.
