Quick guide from the manual
This document serves as an official notice regarding the discontinuation of the Abbott i-STAT CG4+ blue cartridge (list number 03P85-51). Abbott will cease shipments of this product on June 30, 2026. Existing stock may continue to be used until the expiration date printed on the product label. Facilities are advised to transition to the i-STAT CG4+ white cartridge (list number 03P85-25).
Product transition
The i-STAT CG4+ white cartridge is the recommended alternative for the i-STAT 1 System. It supports the same tests as the blue cartridge while offering a wider reportable range and expanded sample types (including capillary and non-anticoagulated samples for certain analytes).
Recommended actions
- Transition to the i-STAT CG4+ white cartridge (03P85-25).
- Follow established facility policies and procedures for validation testing during this transition.
- Contact local support or technical services at 1-844-256-9531 for any questions.
Comparison of cartridges
Both the blue (03P85-51) and white (03P85-25) cartridges require a sample volume of 95 microliters and support the following tests: Lactate, pH, PCO2, PO2, TCO2, HCO3, BE, and sO2. The white cartridge provides broader ranges for pH, PCO2, and PO2, and allows for the use of non-anticoagulated samples, whereas the blue cartridge is restricted to anticoagulated samples.

Practical help
Common problems
Transition to the white cartridge (03P85-25) before June 30, 2026, or before current stock expires.
Facilities should follow their internal established policies and procedures when switching to the new cartridge type.
Before use
- Verify the expiration date on the product label of current blue cartridges.
- Ensure the i-STAT 1 System is ready for the transition to the white cartridge.
- Review facility validation protocols for new diagnostic supplies.
- Confirm sample volume requirements (both cartridges require 95 microliters).
Specs in practice
- Sample Volume
- Both blue and white cartridges require 95 microliters of blood.
- Reportable Range (pH)
- White cartridge (6.500-7.800) offers a wider range than the blue cartridge (7.000-7.700).
- Sample Matrix
- White cartridge supports both anticoagulated and non-anticoagulated samples; blue is limited to anticoagulated only.
Model compatibility
- Both cartridges are designed for use with the i-STAT 1 System.
- The white cartridge (03P85-25) is the direct functional replacement for the blue cartridge (03P85-51).
