Quick guide from the manual
The most critical requirement for this airbrush is immediate cleaning after every use. Failure to clean the device thoroughly will result in permanent clogging. This manual provides instructions for safe operation, paint preparation, flow adjustment, and maintenance.
Components and Controls
The airbrush features a paint cup with lid, a trigger for controlling air and paint flow, a needle limiting knob for flow adjustment, and a nozzle/needle assembly. Ensure all parts are intact before use.
Setup and Operation
- Work Area: Ensure the area is clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated. Keep the compressor at least 20 feet away from explosive vapors.
- Air Connection: Connect a 1/8 inch airbrush hose to the air inlet. Ensure all connections are airtight to prevent leaks and excessive compressor wear.
- Paint Preparation: Thin paint according to the manufacturer's instructions. Strain the paint through a strainer or cheesecloth before adding it to the cup.
- Flow Adjustment: Use the needle limiting knob to control maximum paint flow. Turn clockwise to reduce flow for detail work, or counterclockwise to increase it.
- Painting Technique: Press the trigger down to start airflow, then pull back to start paint flow. Always push the trigger forward to stop paint flow before releasing the trigger to stop airflow.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Clean During Use: When changing colors or clearing clogs, spray solvent through the airbrush into a waste container until it runs clear.
Clean After Every Use:
- Disconnect the airbrush from the air hose.
- Disassemble the handle, needle, nozzle cap, and nozzle.
- Soak parts in solvent for no longer than 10 minutes.
- Use a brush to clean parts and the inside front of the airbrush.
- Wipe exterior surfaces with a solvent-wetted cloth.
- Reassemble carefully, ensuring the needle tip is not bent.
Troubleshooting
If the airbrush sputters, check for low paint levels or improper trigger technique. If it does not spray, check for clogs or a loose needle chucking nut. If overspray occurs, reduce air pressure or adjust your distance from the workpiece.
Practical help
Common problems
Refill paint bottle or practice proper stop-start trigger technique.
Wipe excess paint off the tip, tighten the needle chucking nut, or clean/replace the nozzle.
Reduce air pressure, adjust distance from workpiece, or move more moderately and parallel.
Check air connections, thin paint properly, or increase air pressure.
Before use
- Ensure the work area is clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated.
- Verify the air compressor is on a flat, level surface with 12 inches of clearance.
- Check that all air hose connections are tight and leak-free.
- Thin paint according to manufacturer instructions and strain it.
- Ensure the needle is not bent and the trigger moves properly.
Specs in practice
- Working Air Pressure
- 15-30 PSI; do not exceed the maximum pressure rating.
- Nozzle/Needle Size
- 0.3mm, suitable for fine detail work.
Model compatibility
- Do not use chlorinated solvents (e.g., trichloroethylene, dichloromethane) as they react with aluminum parts.
- Use only NIOSH-approved respirators and ANSI-approved eye protection.
- Not for use as a breathing air supply.
