Getting Started and Operation

Attaching and Detaching: Always turn the camera power off before changing lenses. Align the lens mount index on the lens with the corresponding mark on the camera body and rotate clockwise until it clicks into place. To remove, press the camera's lens release button and rotate the lens counter-clockwise.

Focusing and Zooming: Use the focus mode switch to toggle between Autofocus (AF) and Manual Focus (MF). The lens features an electronic focusing ring. For zooming, simply rotate the dedicated zoom ring. It is recommended to finish zooming before focusing to ensure optimal sharpness.

Control Ring and Image Stabilizer: The customizable control ring can be assigned to various camera functions like aperture or shutter speed. The Image Stabilizer switch should be set to ON for handheld shooting in low light or when using slower shutter speeds. It is recommended to turn the stabilizer OFF when using a tripod.

Maintenance and Care

Keep the lens contacts clean and free of fingerprints or debris to ensure reliable communication with the camera body. If the contacts become soiled, wipe them gently with a soft, dry cloth. The lens mount includes a rubber ring to enhance dust and water resistance; this ring may show signs of friction over time, which is normal and does not affect performance. If necessary, the rubber ring can be replaced by a Canon Service Center.
