Quick guide from the manual

This document provides essential procedures for the reconditioning and re-use of ETAC StarLock, StabilAir, and Standard Air cushions. Always use original ETAC spare parts. Note that the product has a limited service life, which is critical when prescribing for long-term users.

Cleaning the cover

Remove the cover, turn it inside out, and close the zipper before washing. Machine wash in warm water (max 60°C for standard covers, max 80°C for incontinence covers). Do not bleach. Rinse in cold water and tumble dry on low temperature or line dry.

Disinfection of covers

  • Standard cover: Can only be washed. If disinfection is required, use an incontinence cover instead.
  • Incontinence cover: Use a 70% alcohol-based disinfectant or a chlorine-based solution (max 5000 ppm). Rinse in cold water and tumble dry on low temperature or line dry.

Cleaning the cushion

Before cleaning, remove the cover and wash it separately. Ensure the cushion is filled with some air before washing.

Handwash

Inflate the cushion until cells contain air and close the valve. Clean with soap, bicarbonate, or vinegar. Rinse with cold water. After rinsing, overinflate and leave to air dry for 24 hours or dry in a drying cabinet on low heat.

Machine wash (StarLock and Standard Air only)

Inflate until cells contain air and close the valve. Machine wash at 60°C for max 10 minutes using a mild detergent. Rinse in cold water. After rinsing, overinflate and leave to air dry for 24 hours or dry in a drying cabinet on low heat. Do not spin-dry or tumble dry. If water enters the StarLock bulb pump, remove it, drain the water, and reattach.

Disinfection of the cushion

For spot or complete product disinfection, wipe down with a 70% alcohol-based disinfectant or a chlorine-based solution (max 5000 ppm). Follow chemical manufacturer instructions carefully and rinse thoroughly.

Visual inspection and leak detection

Inspect the cushion for damage. If it loses air over 24 hours, locate the leak:

  1. Overinflate the cushion.
  2. Close the valve.
  3. Submerge the cushion in water and watch for air bubbles to identify the puncture.
  4. Mark the damaged area with a permanent marker or toothpick.
