Quick guide from the manual
This document provides instructions for updating the firmware of Fluke 190-Series II ScopeMeters to version V11.44. Important: The firmware upgrade process will erase all data stored in the instrument's internal memory. Ensure you have backed up any critical data before proceeding. Fluke does not provide a tool to undo a firmware upgrade.
Requirements
- Fluke 190-Series II ScopeMeter with firmware prior to V11.44.
- Supported models: 190-102, 190-104, 190-062, 190-202, 190-204, 190-502, 190-504.
- PC running Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, or 10 with one available USB port.
- USB cable (delivered with the instrument).
- Internet connection (only required if USB drivers are not already installed).
Preparation and Safety
Before starting the upgrade, ensure a reliable communication link between the PC and the instrument. It is recommended to use FlukeView software to test the connection. Log in to your computer with an administrator account and close all other applications, especially background software like antivirus, IntelliMouse, or audio players that may interfere with the USB connection.
Upgrade Procedure
- Identify your instrument's serial number (printed on the rear or visible via the USER key and F3 key).
- Connect the ScopeMeter to the PC using the provided USB cable.
- If prompted, install the necessary USB drivers.
- In the device manager, identify the assigned Virtual COM port (Fluke USB Serial Port). If it is outside the range COM1–COM32, reassign it to a lower number.
- Connect the ScopeMeter to mains power using the BC190 Battery Charger.
- Turn on the instrument.
- Enter the serial number in the upgrade tool's dialog box and select START.
- The instrument will automatically switch off and on several times during the process. Wait for the "upgrade successful" message on the PC screen.
Troubleshooting
If the upgrade fails or the instrument does not start properly (display off, only a weak beep):
- Turn on the instrument while holding the cursor up and cursor right keys.
- Listen for the beep and keep holding the keys until at least 4 blocks of the progress bar appear on the screen.
- The Flash Tool will recognize the failed installation and attempt to recover the data.
- If you receive a "data corrupt or invalid" error, power down the instrument, disconnect the power and USB cables, reconnect them, and power up the instrument again.
