Quick guide from the manual

This document provides setup and operational instructions for the ICON DT-air series active studio monitors (DT-5A air, DT-6A air, DT-8A air). The system features an integrated AirCon wireless control module for remote adjustments. Ensure all connections are made before powering on the unit, following the 'last on, first off' rule for power amplifiers.

Positioning the monitor

To minimize room acoustic interference, use near-field monitoring. Place the monitors to form an equilateral triangle with the listener (the 'mixing triangle'). Avoid reflective surfaces like tabletops or glass near the monitors. If using the monitors in a horizontal position, ensure the tweeters are on the outermost sides to improve stereo imaging.

Connecting the system

The monitors feature a balanced XLR input. To connect to a mixer:

  • Lower the mixer's master outputs.
  • Connect the mixer's left/right Control Room outputs to the corresponding monitor's balanced input.
  • Set the monitor's input volume to the 2 o'clock position.
  • Gradually raise the mixer's output level.

Rear panel controls

  • Hi, Mid, Low contour: Adjusts response by -2dB, 0dB, or +2dB.
  • Hi-Pass filter: Selectable between Flat, 60Hz, and 80Hz.
  • Volume control: Adjusts the output level.
  • AirCon IP setting: Used only if the optional AirCon wireless controller is purchased.

Safety and maintenance

Do not expose the unit to rain or moisture. Use only a dry or slightly damp soft cloth for cleaning. Ensure proper ventilation by not blocking openings. If the unit requires service, contact the regional support center listed in the manual or visit support.iconproaudio.com.

Practical help

Common problems

AC hum or noise

Avoid running power cables parallel to input cables. If they must cross, do so at a 90-degree angle. Use balanced XLR cables to utilize common mode rejection.

Bass signal clipping

The 'Definitor' logo on the front LCD will flash if the bass signal is clipping.

Mute function not working

The mute function requires the optional AirCon wireless controller to be activated.

Before use

  • Ensure the main power switch is in the OFF position before connecting the power cable.
  • Check that the voltage selector is set correctly for your region (110V/220V).
  • Verify all audio cables are connected before turning on the monitors.
  • Place the monitors on a stable surface using the included Vasorb rubber feet.
  • Set the input volume to a low level before initial power-up.

Specs in practice

Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the monitor can reproduce (e.g., 45Hz-25kHz for DT-5A air).
Bi-Amp Power
Separate amplification for the woofer and tweeter for optimized performance.
Bass Principle
Bass reflex design using a tuned vent port for extended low-end response.

Model compatibility

  • The AirCon wireless controller is optional and required for remote volume, mute, and advanced settings.
  • The system accepts balanced or unbalanced +4dBu/+4dBm line level signals via XLR.
