Product Description
The Ottobock orthotic knee joints 17B20, 17B21, and 17B42 are designed for orthotic fittings of the lower limbs. These joints are intended to be used exclusively in pairs for a single patient. They are available in various configurations with system widths of 16 mm and 20 mm, manufactured from stainless steel.

Indications
- Partial or total paralysis of the leg muscles
- Orthopaedic diseases of the lower limbs
The product is designed for a lifetime of 3 years when used as intended and assembled professionally by trained, qualified personnel.
Safety Instructions
Caution: Incorrect alignment or assembly can lead to loss of functionality. Only trained personnel should perform the installation. Ensure the product is not subjected to extreme strain, such as from a fall. If the product is damaged or shows signs of functional loss, discontinue use immediately and have it inspected by authorized personnel. Use the product on only one patient to prevent excessive strain and potential failure.
Caution: Improper use of the locking mechanism poses a risk of injury. Always fully extend the joint to ensure the lock is engaged. Be aware that clothing can get caught in the joint, which may impair its function.
Preparation and Assembly
To ensure proper function, orthotic joints must be aligned in parallel using the 743R6 alignment fixture. The side bars must be glued into the insertion zones using the specified 636W28 special adhesive and a degreasing cleaner. Allow at least 4 hours for the adhesive to cure, with final bonding strength reached after 16 hours.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Clean the joints immediately after contact with salt, chlorine, or soapy water, or if they become dirty. Rinse with clean fresh water and allow to air dry, avoiding direct heat sources. The manufacturer requires at least a semi-annual inspection to verify functionality and check for wear. Use only the 633F7 special lubricant for maintenance. If the locking mechanism shows signs of wear, replace the lock wedge, lock lever, or the lower joint section.
Disposal
Dispose of the product in accordance with applicable national regulations.
