Important information from the manual

The Winncare APLOT & PHARMA PLOTS are waffle foam mattresses designed for pressure ulcer prevention in patients bedridden for 10 to 15 hours a day. Proper installation and maintenance are critical for performance and safety.

  • Installation: Ensure the foam studs face the patient. If using a PROMUST cover, ensure the flap faces downwards. If using a DERMALON sheet, ensure the sides face downwards.
  • Cleaning: PROMUST covers are machine washable up to 90°C and compatible with bleach up to 5000 ppm. DERMALON sheets must not be machine washed and are compatible with bleach up to 1000 ppm.
  • Maintenance: Perform an annual visual inspection of the foam and cover.
  • Safety: Do not use microwave-heated hot water bottles on the mattress. External cardiac massage requires a board between the thorax and the mattress surface.

Indications and Contraindications

These mattresses are intended for patients with a good to average general condition, without major neurological disorders or arterial disease. They are suitable for patients with stage 1 or 2 pressure ulcers (or stage 3/4 if localized pressure relief is possible). They are contraindicated for patients requiring periodic repositioning that is impossible, patients at very high risk, or for use on medical imaging tables.

Installation of the device

The mattress may be delivered compressed or flat. If compressed, it may take up to 24 hours to regain its final visual appearance, though it is safe to use immediately. The mattress is head/foot reversible.

Preventive maintenance and cleaning

Annual checks are required to ensure the foam has not subsided and the cover is free of holes or tears. Always clean the mattress between patients. Do not iron the cover. Replace the cover if its surface appearance changes.

Warnings and Precautions

A support alone is not sufficient to prevent pressure ulcers. Other measures are required:

  • Change patient position at least every 4 hours.
  • Maintain skin hygiene and avoid maceration.
  • Ensure adequate nutrition and hydration.
  • Keep a minimum distance of 22 cm between the bed rail and the top of the mattress.
  • Remove foreign bodies like tubing or crumbs from the bed.
  • Monitor patients at risk of falling closely.

Storage and Disposal

Store the mattress away from light, heat, and humidity. Dispose of the product according to local recycling regulations.
