Quick guide from the manual
This document provides essential instructions for operating and maintaining your BLACK+DECKER 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker (CM1060). Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.
Getting started
Before first use, wash all removable parts as described in the cleaning section. Fill the reservoir with cold water to the 12-cup MAX mark and run a brewing cycle without coffee grounds to clean the system. Discard the water and paper filter, then allow the unit to cool.
Setting the clock
- Plug the appliance into a standard outlet.
- The display will flash 12:00 A.M.
- Press the HOUR button until the correct time appears (a small dot in the top left corner indicates P.M.).
- Press the MIN button to select the minutes.
Brewing coffee
- Open the cover and fill the reservoir with cold tap water (do not exceed 12 cups).
- Place a basket-style paper filter into the filter basket and add ground coffee (suggested: 1 heaping tablespoon per cup).
- Close the cover securely.
- Ensure the brew-thru lid is in the down position on the carafe, then place the carafe on the plate.
- Press the ON/OFF button to start brewing. The indicator light will illuminate. The plate will keep coffee warm for two hours.
Sneak-A-Cup feature
You can remove the carafe to pour a cup of coffee while brewing is in progress. You must replace the carafe on the plate within 30 seconds to prevent the filter basket from overflowing.
Setting auto brew time
- Press the PROG button; the AUTO light will flash and the clock will display 12:00.
- Use the HOUR and MIN buttons to set the desired start time (ensure the P.M. indicator is correct).
- Press and hold the AUTO button until the light stops flashing.
Care and cleaning
Always unplug the appliance and allow it to cool before cleaning. The filter basket and carafe are top-rack dishwasher safe. Wipe the housing, control panel, and plate with a soft, damp cloth. Never immerse the coffeemaker in water. For mineral buildup, perform a vinegar cleaning cycle once a month by brewing a mixture of white vinegar and water through the system, followed by a cycle of fresh water.
Troubleshooting
- Coffeemaker does not turn on: Ensure it is plugged into a working outlet.
- Coffeemaker is leaking: Do not overfill the reservoir beyond the 12-cup line; ensure the carafe and lid are correctly positioned.
- Filter basket overflows: Replace the carafe within 30 seconds when using the Sneak-A-Cup feature; reduce the amount of coffee grounds.
- Coffee sediment in cup: Ensure the paper filter and basket are properly seated.
- Brews slowly: The unit needs cleaning; follow the vinegar cleaning instructions.
