Quick guide from the manual
This document provides operating instructions for the Aprilaire 1830, 1850, and 1850W whole-home dehumidifiers. It covers basic humidity control, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps for common diagnostic codes.
Device Overview
The dehumidifier draws air into the cabinet, filters it, removes moisture via a refrigeration system, and discharges dry air into your HVAC system. The unit features an on-board control panel with an ON/OFF button, MODE button for ventilation, and UP/DOWN arrows for humidity adjustments.
Setting the Desired Humidity Level
The control displays the humidity setting when idle and the measured humidity when running. You can set the relative humidity (RH) between 40% and 80%.
- Initial setting: 55% RH.
- To make air drier: Decrease the humidity setting.
- To make air less dry: Increase the humidity setting.
- Note: When first installed, the unit may run for an extended period to remove initial moisture from home materials.
Maintenance
Clean or Replace the Air Filter
The air filter should be checked and cleaned every 6 months. A CLEAN FILTER reminder will appear on the display.
- Turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF.
- Remove the filter access door.
- Slide the filter out.
- Flush with warm water and mild detergent.
- Shake off excess water and reinstall.
- Turn the unit ON and press UP and DOWN buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to clear the reminder.
Check the Drain
Check the drain annually to ensure there are no blockages or air locks. Do not use spray solvents or cleaners on or near the inlet side of the unit.
Troubleshooting
If an error occurs, the control will display a diagnostic code:
- E1–E7, E9: Contact your installing contractor.
- E8: Indicates the incoming air temperature is below 50°F, above 104°F, or the dew point is below 40°F. The unit will resume operation automatically once conditions return to the acceptable range.
