The Bosch GBH 18V-40 C is a professional cordless rotary hammer designed for hammer drilling in concrete, masonry, and stone, as well as for chiseling work. It features Bluetooth connectivity for data transfer and settings adjustment via a mobile device.
Assembly
Always remove the battery before performing any maintenance, tool changes, or transport. Press the lock-on button to secure the on/off switch during transport or storage.
- Auxiliary Handle: Always use the auxiliary handle (12). Turn the lower grip anticlockwise to swivel it to the desired position, then retighten.
- Tool Change (SDS-max): Clean and lightly grease the insertion end of the tool. Insert the tool into the SDS-max holder while turning until it locks automatically. Pull the tool to check for secure locking. To remove, push the locking sleeve (4) back.
Operation
Ensure the cover (15) for the Bluetooth Low Energy Module GCY 42 is closed during operation to prevent dust ingress.
Setting the Operating Mode
Use the mode selector switch (5) to choose between:
- Hammer Drilling: For drilling in concrete, masonry, and stone.
- Vario-Lock: For adjusting the chisel position.
- Chiseling: For chiseling work.
Working Modes
The user interface (14) allows selection of working modes:
- Auto: Fast, controlled run-up to maximum power.
- Favorite: Individual configuration via smartphone app.
- Soft: Reduced power for processing sensitive materials.
Maintenance and Service
Keep the tool and ventilation slots clean. Replace a damaged dust protection cap (3) immediately. Clean the tool holder (2) after each use.
Troubleshooting
If the status indicator (20) flashes red, the rapid shut-off (KickBack Control) has been triggered. Release the on/off switch (9) and press it again to restart.

Check battery charge level. If the status indicator (20) is yellow, the battery is nearly empty or the tool is too hot. If red, the tool is overheated or the battery is empty.
