This document provides essential instructions for the Bosch EasyDrill 18V-40 and EasyImpact 18V-40 cordless drill/drivers. It covers safe operation, assembly, and maintenance. Always remove the battery before performing any maintenance or tool changes to prevent accidental activation.
Device Description
The tools are designed for driving and loosening screws and for drilling in wood, metal, ceramic, and plastic. The EasyImpact 18V-40 model is additionally designed for impact drilling in brick.
Assembly
Charging the Battery: Use only the chargers listed in the technical data. The battery is supplied partially charged; charge it fully before first use.
Changing the Tool: The drill spindle is locked when the on/off switch is not pressed. Open the keyless chuck by turning it in the direction of rotation 1, insert the tool, and firmly tighten the chuck sleeve in the direction of rotation 2 until it stops clicking.
Operation
Inserting the Battery: Set the rotational direction switch to the middle position to prevent accidental starting. Insert the charged battery into the handle until it engages flush.
Setting Rotational Direction: Use the rotational direction switch to change the direction. This is not possible while the on/off switch is pressed.
Switching On/Off: Press and hold the on/off switch to start. Release it to stop. The worklight illuminates the area when the switch is pressed.
Adjusting Speed and Torque: Speed is controlled by the pressure applied to the on/off switch. Torque can be preselected in 20 stages using the torque presetting ring.

Common problems
Check if the battery is charged and correctly inserted. Ensure the rotational direction switch is not in the middle position.
The tool may be overloaded or the battery temperature is too high. The electronic protection system will switch it off until it cools down.
Ensure the chuck sleeve is tightened firmly in the direction of rotation 2 until no more clicking is heard.
Before use
- Ensure the battery is fully charged.
- Check that the correct tool bit is inserted and the chuck is tightened.
- Set the rotational direction switch to the desired direction.
- Select the appropriate gear (I or II) for the task.
- Set the torque or operating mode (drilling/screwdriving/impact) as required.
