The Bosch GBH 18V-28 D Professional is a cordless rotary hammer designed for hammer drilling in concrete, brick, and stone, as well as light to medium-duty chiseling. It is also suitable for drilling without impact in wood, metal, ceramic, and plastic, and for screwdriving.
Device Description
Key components include the SDS plus drill chuck, auxiliary handle, depth stop, impact/mode selector switch, and worklight. The tool features KickBack Control for user protection and integrated vibration damping.
Operation
Operating Modes: Use the impact/mode selector switch to choose between hammer drilling, drilling (without impact), Vario-Lock (for adjusting chisel position), and chiseling. Always change modes only when the tool is switched off.
Drilling Depth: Use the depth stop to set the required drilling depth X. Press the adjustment button and insert the depth stop into the auxiliary handle.
Tool Change: The SDS plus system allows for easy, tool-free bit changes. For non-SDS plus tools, a keyed or keyless chuck is required.
Safety and Maintenance
- Always wear ear protection.
- Use the auxiliary handle provided.
- Remove the battery before any maintenance or tool changes.
- Keep the tool and ventilation slots clean.
- Replace a damaged dust protection cap immediately.
- Clean the tool holder after each use.

Common problems
Tool does not start
Check battery charge status and ensure the battery is properly inserted.
Tool stops suddenly (KickBack Control)
Release the on/off switch and press it again to restart.
Reduced hammer performance
At low temperatures, the tool may need a short time to reach full hammer/impact capacity.
Before use
- Ensure the battery is fully charged.
- Check that the auxiliary handle is securely tightened.
- Verify the correct operating mode is selected.
- Ensure the dust protection cap is not damaged.
- Check that the tool bit is properly locked in the chuck.
