Quick guide from the manual

The Bosch GHO 12V-20 Professional is a cordless planer designed for planing wood materials like beams and boards, as well as chamfering edges and rebating. This guide provides essential information for safe and efficient operation.

Device Description

The planer features a depth adjustment knob, a button for maximizing cutting depth, an on/off switch with a lock-off button, and an adjustable planer base plate. It includes a drawer for spare blades and a selectable chip ejector (left or right).

Fitting and Setup

Before any work, remove the battery. To change the planer blade: turn the blade head until it is parallel to the adjustable base plate, loosen the two fastening screws with the provided hex key, and slide the blade out. Ensure the new blade is seated correctly in the mounting guide and tighten the screws firmly.

Operation

The tool is compatible with all Bosch 10.8V and 12V batteries. For optimal performance, use batteries with at least 2.5 Ah capacity. To start, press the lock-off button, then hold the on/off switch. The cutting depth can be adjusted from 0 to 1.0 mm using the knob; for depths up to 2.0 mm, press the maximization button.

Dust and Chip Extraction

For optimal results, use an external dust extraction system or the provided chip/dust bag. The chip ejector can be inserted on either the left or right side. Empty the dust bag regularly to maintain suction efficiency.

Safety and Maintenance

Always keep the tool and ventilation slots clean. Regularly clean the chip ejector with compressed air. Ensure the side cutter block guard remains free-moving. Do not plane over metal objects like nails or screws, as this can damage the blade and shaft.

Practical help

Common problems

Tool switches off automatically

This may be due to electrostatic discharge. Switch the tool off and back on again to resume normal operation.

Chip ejector becomes blocked

Excessive feed rate can cause blockages. Reduce feed rate and clean the ejector with a suitable tool like a piece of wood or compressed air.

Poor surface quality

Ensure blades are sharp. Use a lower feed rate and apply pressure to the middle of the planer base plate.

Before use

  • Ensure the battery is fully charged.
  • Check that the planer blade is sharp and correctly installed.
  • Verify that fastening screws are tightened.
  • Ensure the chip ejector is clear of blockages.
  • Check that the side cutter block guard moves freely.
