Quick guide from the manual
This document provides essential instructions for the Bosch GKE 18V-40 cordless chainsaw. Before first use, ensure the oil reservoir is filled with chain oil, as the tool is not pre-filled. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the chain is correctly tensioned and lubricated.
Assembly
To assemble the chain bar and saw chain:
- Place the chainsaw on a level surface with the cover (14) facing up.
- Remove the cover (14) by unscrewing the two fastening nuts (15) with the provided tool (13).
- Hold the chain bar (11) vertically and attach the saw chain (12) in the correct direction.
- Ensure the guide pin (10) is aligned correctly.
- Place the chain around the drive sprocket (3) and slide the bar (11) over the fastening bolts (8).
- Replace the cover (14) and hand-tighten the fastening nuts (15).
- Use the assembly tool (13) to turn the chain tensioning screw (7) clockwise until the chain is properly tensioned. The chain is correctly tensioned when it can be lifted approximately 6-7 mm from the bar (11).
- Tighten the fastening nuts (15) securely.
Operation
Before switching on, remove the chain guard (16) and insert the battery. To start, pull the kickback brake lever (5) from position 2 to position 1 towards the front handle (4). Press the lock-off button (19), then press and hold the On/Off switch (2). To stop, release the switch and push the kickback brake lever (5) forward to position 2.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regularly check the chain saw for obvious defects such as a loose or damaged chain. Keep the tool and ventilation slots clean. Do not use water, solvents, or polishes. Clean the oil outlet (6) carefully to prevent blockages. Before long-term storage, clean the chain bar and saw chain, and empty the oil reservoir.
Safety
Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands. Do not operate the saw on a ladder or above shoulder height. Ensure the environment is dry and free of obstacles. Always be aware of kickback risks; never touch objects with the tip of the chain bar.
