Quick guide from the manual
This document provides essential operating instructions for the Bosch GSR 185-LI and GSB 185-LI cordless drill/drivers. Always remove the battery before performing maintenance, changing tools, or transporting the device to prevent accidental activation.
Device Description
The tools are designed for driving and loosening screws, as well as drilling in wood, metal, ceramic, and plastic. The GSB model additionally features impact drilling for brick, masonry, and stone.
Operation
Battery Installation: Insert the charged battery into the base of the tool until it clicks securely into place.
Direction of Rotation: Use the rotation selector switch only when the tool is at a complete standstill. Push the switch to the left for clockwise rotation (drilling/screwing) and to the right for counter-clockwise rotation (unscrewing).
Mode Selection: Use the mode selector ring to choose between drilling, screwing, or impact drilling (GSB model only).
Speed Selection: Use the mechanical speed selector switch only when the tool is at a standstill. Speed 1 is for low speeds (large diameter drilling/screwing), and Speed 2 is for high speeds (small diameter drilling).
Maintenance and Cleaning
Keep the tool and ventilation slots clean for safe operation. Always remove the battery before any maintenance work. If the battery performance drops significantly after charging, it is likely exhausted and needs replacement.
Safety
Always wear ear protection when impact drilling. Hold the tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing operations where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring. Ensure the workpiece is secured with clamps or a vice rather than holding it by hand.

Common problems
Check battery charge level. If the LED flashes 3 times after inactivity, the thermal protection is active; allow the tool to cool down.
The battery may be defective and needs to be replaced.
Ensure the tool is at a standstill before changing direction or speed. Use low speed for starting holes and apply pressure only in a direct line with the bit.
Before use
- Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.
- Check that the rotation selector is in the desired position.
- Verify the correct mode (drilling/screwing/impact) is selected.
- Ensure the tool is switched off before inserting the battery.
- Check that the drill bit or screwdriver bit is securely tightened in the chuck.
Specs in practice
- Max Torque (Hard)
- 50 Nm; the maximum force available for driving screws into hard materials.
- No-load speed (1st gear)
- 0–500 min-1; suitable for high-torque tasks like large diameter drilling.
- No-load speed (2nd gear)
- 0–1900 min-1; suitable for high-speed drilling tasks.
Model compatibility
- Use only Bosch GBA 18V or ProCORE18V batteries.
- Use only chargers compatible with the specified battery types (GAL 18..., GAX 18..., GAL 36...).
