This document provides operating instructions for the Bosch GDR, GDS, and GDX Professional cordless impact screwdrivers. It covers essential safety, battery management, tool changing procedures, and operational advice for driving and loosening screws and bolts.
Device description
The tool features a tool holder, locking sleeve, carrying strap, belt clip, battery pack with unlocking button, rotational direction switch, On/Off switch, PowerLight, and handle. Carbon brushes are accessible for maintenance.
Battery and charging
Use only original Bosch lithium-ion batteries. The battery is supplied partially charged and should be fully charged before first use. It is protected against deep discharge by Electronic Cell Protection (ECP). The battery features NTC temperature control, allowing charging only between 0 °C and 45 °C.
Tool changing
GDR/GDX models: Pull the locking sleeve forward, insert the tool bit into the holder, and release the sleeve to lock. Use bits with a ball catch or a universal bit holder.

GDS/GDX models: Slide the application tool (impact socket) onto the square drive of the tool holder.
Operation
Set the rotational direction switch to the center position to prevent accidental starting. Press the switch to the left for right rotation (tightening) and to the right for left rotation (loosening). The speed is variably adjustable by the pressure applied to the On/Off switch.
Working advice
The impact mechanism activates once the screw connection runs tight. Maximum torque is typically achieved after 6–10 seconds of impact. Always verify the final tightening torque with a torque wrench.
Maintenance and cleaning
Regularly clean the air vents to prevent dust accumulation. Check carbon brushes every 2–3 months and replace them if necessary using only original Bosch parts. Always remove the battery before performing any maintenance or transport.
