Quick guide from the manual
This document provides essential instructions for the Cuisinart Custom 14-Cup Food Processor (DFP-14NYC SERIES). It covers safe unpacking, proper assembly, operating techniques for various food processing tasks, and maintenance. Always read the full manual before first use.
Important Unpacking Instructions
The box contains the machine base, 14-cup work bowl, cover with large feed tube, pusher assembly, metal chopping/mixing/dough blade, slicing disc, shredding disc, and a detachable stem. Caution: Cutting tools have very sharp edges. Handle with extreme care when removing from foam packaging.

Safety Precautions
- Always unplug the unit when not in use, before assembling/disassembling, and before cleaning.
- Never pull the power cord to unplug.
- Blades and discs are razor sharp; handle carefully.
- Do not operate with a damaged cord or plug.
- Keep hands, spatulas, and utensils away from moving blades/discs during processing.
- Always use the pusher; never push food down by hand.
- Ensure the motor has completely stopped before removing the cover.
- Do not operate in an appliance garage or under a wall cabinet.
Operating Techniques
Chopping and Puréeing
Use the metal blade for chopping and puréeing. Cut food into 1-inch pieces for even results. Use the pulse technique for coarse chopping and continuous operation for puréeing. Do not exceed the recommended capacity listed in the Capacity Chart.
Kneading Yeast Dough
Use the metal blade for kneading. Do not attempt to knead dough that is too stiff to knead by hand. Ensure the blade is pushed down as far as it will go on the motor shaft. If the motor slows down, divide the dough into smaller batches.
Slicing and Shredding
Insert the desired disc, lock the cover, and use the pusher to guide food through the feed tube. Use light pressure for soft foods (tomatoes, mushrooms) and firm pressure for hard vegetables (carrots, yams).
Cleaning and Maintenance
All parts except the motor base are dishwasher safe (top rack recommended). Rinse parts immediately after use to prevent food from drying. Wipe the motor base with a damp sponge. Never store blades or discs on the motor shaft.
Troubleshooting
- Food unevenly chopped: Process smaller amounts or use the pulse technique.
- Liquid leaks from bowl: Do not exceed maximum liquid capacity (3 cups thin, 6 cups thick).
- Motor stops: The unit may be overloaded or overheated. Allow the motor to cool for 5-10 minutes.

Common problems
Process smaller amounts at a time or use the pulse technique instead of continuous operation.
Do not remove the metal blade before removing the bowl from the base. Removing them together creates a better seal.
The motor may have overheated due to heavy load. Turn off and allow to cool for 5-10 minutes.
The dough may be too dry (add water 1 tbsp at a time) or too wet (add flour 1 tbsp at a time).
Before use
- Ensure the box is right-side up before unpacking.
- Handle all blades and discs with extreme care due to sharp edges.
- Check that the work bowl is properly locked in place before attaching the blade.
- Ensure the blade is pushed down as far as it will go on the motor shaft.
