This document provides installation instructions for the Detex 03WS trim used with Advantex and Value series devices. Preparing the trim
Before installing the trim on the door, the rim cylinder must be prepared:
- Insert a rim cylinder (not included) and cut the tailpiece to the required length.
- Assemble the rim tailpiece and cylinder. Use lockwashers to tighten the cylinder to the escutcheon.
- If the key does not turn freely, recut or file the cylinder tailpiece.
- Select the appropriate tailpiece based on door thickness (1-3/4" and 2" doors use kit 101480-2; 2-1/4" doors use kit 101480-1).
Preparing the door
Detex recommends mounting the device 40 inches above the finished floor. Use the provided templates to mark and drill holes based on your specific device series (40, 50, V40, V50, 10, or 20) and door hand (RHR or LHR). Ensure you account for beveled edges. For 2-inch narrow stile glass doors, do not use the provided strike locator.
Assembling the trim and backplate
The assembly process varies slightly depending on the device type:
Advantex Rim Device
- Install the backplate using holes 'a' with the specified screws.
- Depress the pushpad, insert the centercase into the backplate slots, and rotate toward the door.
- Fasten the rim device to the mounting plate using 1/4-20 x 1/4" PPH machine screws.
- Align the tailpiece extension into the backplate trim cam and fasten the trim to the backplate using 'e' holes and 1/4-20 machine screws.
Advantex Surface Vertical Rod Device
- Install the backplate using holes 'a'.
- Depress the pushpad, insert the centercase into the backplate slots, and rotate toward the door.
- Remove E-clips from pins and pull pins out.
- Align the tailpiece extension into the backplate trim cam and fasten the trim to the backplate using 'e' holes and 1/4-20 machine screws.
- Depress the pushpad to align the through-hole in the carriage with the mounting hole and install the 1/4-20 machine screw without a lockwasher.

Common problems
Key does not turn freely in the cylinder.
Recut or file the cylinder tailpiece until it operates smoothly.

- Check that the mounting height is approximately 40 inches from the finished floor.
