Installation Instructions for Detex 02Z & 03Z Anti-Vandal Trim

This document provides installation instructions for the Detex 02Z and 03Z Anti-Vandal Trims. The 02Z model requires no specific trim preparation, while the 03Z model requires additional drilling. Ensure all holes are drilled straight and level. For technical support, contact Detex at 800-729-3839 (option 2).

Device parts and tools

The trim kit includes the trim unit, mounting screws (1/4-20 x 1), lock washers, and tailpiece assemblies. Required tools include safety glasses, tape measure, pencil, hammer, center punch, drill, 3/8 inch drill bit, 1-1/2 inch hole saw (for 03Z), 3/4 inch drill bit (for 03Z), and a screwdriver.

03Z Trim preparation

For 03Z models, prepare the rim cylinder by cutting the tailpiece to the required length (1-1/16 inch min to 1-1/8 inch max). Install the cylinder and tailpiece assembly. If the door is 2-1/4 inches thick, replace the pre-installed tailpiece with the longer one provided in the hardware kit.

Door preparation

Mark the mounting plate holes on the interior door face. For 03Z functions, peel back the label to mark the center hole. Punch the marked holes and drill four 3/8 inch holes through the door. For 03Z, drill a 1/8 inch pilot hole, then drill a 3/4 inch hole through the interior face only. On the exterior face, drill a 1-1/2 inch hole 1/4 inch above the pilot hole.

Trim installation

Place the trim unit onto the exterior door face. Fasten the backplate to the trim using the provided 1/4-20 x 1 machine screws and #1/4 lock washers. Ensure the trim tailpiece engages with the cam on the mounting plate with the key removed from the cylinder. Verify the cam orientation is correct before finalizing the installation.
