The 2-Pack Door Chain Lock is a supplemental security device designed for interior doors. It allows the door to be opened slightly for visual identification of visitors while preventing forced entry. Please note that this is not a substitute for a primary door lock and is not intended for high-security applications.
Installation Instructions
Follow these steps to install the door chain lock:
- Select Location: Mount the device on the interior side of the door, approximately 5-6 inches above the doorknob.
- Position Chain Plate: Hold the chain plate against the door edge (not the door frame) and mark the screw holes.
- Pre-Drill Holes: Drill pilot holes at the marked positions on the door edge.
- Attach Chain Plate: Secure the chain plate to the door edge using the provided screws. Ensure the chain hangs freely.
- Position Strike Plate: Close the door and mark the position on the door frame where the chain will engage the strike plate. Ensure the chain reaches comfortably.
- Pre-Drill Frame Holes: Drill pilot holes in the door frame at the marked position.
- Attach Strike Plate: Secure the strike plate to the door frame using the provided screws.
- Test Operation: Slide the chain into the strike plate slot. The door should open a limited distance when engaged.
