The ILUMINAR 1000W DE HPS-MH Remote Ballast is designed for indoor and greenhouse applications. It features dimming capabilities and a proprietary Roll Lock socket for secure lamp installation. For optimal performance, it is recommended to run the lamp at 100% power for at least 100 hours after initial startup.

Safety Warnings
- Electrical Safety: Always have a licensed electrician install the unit. Do not submerge in water. Do not open the ballast case.
- Handling: Do not handle lamps with bare hands; use surgical or cloth gloves to prevent oil residue.
- Operation: Do not connect to incompatible fixtures. Do not use with external ignitors or lamps with built-in ignitors.
- Cooling: Mount units at least 24-60 inches apart in areas with sufficient cooling. Do not install in high-heat areas like attics or closed closets.
- Maintenance: Disconnect power before moving or performing maintenance. Allow hot lamps to cool for 1 hour before restriking.
Installation Procedure
- Ensure the electrical panel has sufficient capacity (panels should not exceed 80% of capacity).
- Find a suitable location with good airflow and away from heat sources.
- Install the lamp into the reflector socket and connect the lamp cord to the ballast.
- Remove the power cord from the box and plug it into the power source.
- Once the lamp fires, set the desired dimming ratio. Note that output increases gradually.
Dimming and Operation
Use the dimming dial to cycle through levels. If the lamp fails to start, do not cycle power on and off repeatedly. If it does not light after 30 minutes, shut off power and reconnect to restart the sequence. Never turn off a lamp before it has reached full intensity, as this may shorten its lifespan.
Roll Lock Socket Installation
The Roll Lock socket allows for single-handed lamp installation:

- Slide both levers away from the lamp to the Open position.
- Ensure wire leads are straight and not frayed.
- Slide the lamp into the fixture until fully seated.
- Rotate the bulb to lock it into place.
- Slide both socket levers toward the lamp to the closed position.
Ballast Protections
The unit includes several built-in protections:
- End of Lamp Life (EOL) Protection
- Short Circuit Protection
- Open Circuit Protection
- Ignition Failure Protection
- Thermal Protection
Troubleshooting
- Lamp Loose in Socket: Ensure the lamp is fully inserted and properly locked.
- Incorrect Voltage: Verify input voltage matches the ballast rating. Disconnect immediately if incorrect.
- Defective Wiring: Examine wiring against the diagram on the ballast label. For 240V, do not use a neutral; use two hot wires and a ground.
- Poor Connections: Check wiring and lamp contact with the socket.
- Lamp Damage: Inspect for broken tubes or loose metal.

Practical help
Common problems
Do not cycle power on and off. Wait 30 minutes, shut off power, and reconnect to restart the sequence.
Ensure the lamp is fully inserted and that both socket levers are in the closed position.
Verify input voltage matches ballast rating. If incorrect, disconnect from power source immediately.
For 240V ballast, do not use a neutral. Use two hot wires and a ground. Check all connections for security.
Before use
- Verify electrical panel capacity (do not exceed 80% of capacity).
- Ensure input voltage matches the ballast (120V/240V or 277V).
- Use surgical or cloth gloves when handling the lamp.
- Ensure adequate cooling space (24-60 inches apart).
- Check that wire leads on the lamp are straight and not frayed.
Specs in practice
- Remote Mounting
- The ballast can be mounted up to 5 meters (16 feet) away from the fixture.
Images and diagrams
- The Roll Lock socket mechanism uses two levers to secure the lamp; ensure they are in the 'closed' position during operation.
- Wiring diagram on the ballast label must be followed; specifically, 240V installations require two hot wires and a ground.
Model compatibility
- Compatible only with ILUMINAR Lighting fixtures.
- Not for use with external ignitors.
- Lamps with built-in ignitors will not work with this ballast.
- Do not connect CMH ballasts to a Flip Box.
