This document provides instructions for the Presto 12-cup stainless steel percolator coffee maker. It covers the initial setup, daily brewing procedures, cleaning, and troubleshooting steps to ensure optimal performance.
Device description
The coffee maker consists of a stainless steel pot, a removable power base with cord storage, a perk tube, a basket assembly, and a lid. It features an automatic keep-warm function and a signal light that indicates when the coffee is ready.
Before first use
- Wash the inside of the pot with warm, soapy water. Do not get the bottom exterior of the pot wet.
- Wash the cover, basket assembly, perk tube, and basket lid in warm, soapy water. These parts are also dishwasher safe.
- Dry all parts thoroughly before use.
How to use
- Fill the pot with fresh, cold water to the desired level indicator inside the pot. Always brew at least 4 cups.
- Place a disposable wraparound filter over the basket stem.
- Add regular or percolator grind coffee to the basket. Fold the filter corners over the stem to cover the coffee.
- Ensure the washer on the bottom of the perk tube moves freely.
- Place the basket assembly onto the perk tube and position it in the perk well inside the pot.
- Place the cover on the pot, set it on the power base, and plug it in.
- Press the ON/OFF switch to start brewing. The signal light will turn on when the coffee is ready.
Care and cleaning
Always allow the unit to cool before cleaning. Remove the lid by pressing down on the cover knob and tilting it towards the spout. Wash the basket assembly, cover, and inside of the pot with warm, soapy water. Wipe the outside of the pot with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners. To remove sediment, periodically run a cycle with water and 3 tablespoons of automatic dishwashing detergent, then rinse thoroughly.
Safety
- Do not immerse the power base or the pot in water.
- Keep the cord away from hot surfaces and edges.
- Do not touch hot surfaces; use handles or knobs.
- Always unplug the base when not in use.

Practical help
Common problems
Use at least the minimum amount of coffee, ensure the perk tube washer moves freely, clean the unit of accumulated sediment, and ensure the perk tube is seated correctly in the perk well.
Clean the washer and the bottom of the perk tube with a brush until it moves freely.
Dry the bottom exterior of the pot thoroughly before placing it on the power base to prevent electrical damage.
