Quick guide from the manual
This manual provides essential safety and operational instructions for the Telwin 13DIN automatic darkening welding helmet. The helmet is designed to protect the face and eyes from harmful UV/IR radiation, sparks, and molten metal splashes during arc welding. It is not suitable for laser welding, oxy-acetylene welding/cutting, or protection against explosions and corrosive liquids.
General Safety
- Always inspect the helmet and filter before use. Ensure the filter and protective plates are correctly positioned.
- Use the helmet only within the temperature range of -5°C to +55°C.
- Never use the helmet without the internal and external transparent protective plates.
- If the helmet fails to darken, stop using it immediately and contact your distributor.
- Do not use solvents to clean the filter or protective plates.
Helmet Adjustments
- Perimeter Strap: Adjust the front and rear straps manually to fit your head size.
- Strap Height: Adjust the height so the strap sits just above the eyebrows.
- Face-to-Filter Distance: Loosen the external knobs to slide the helmet forward or backward for the desired position.
- Inclination: Adjust the angle so your eyes are perpendicular to the filter surface.
Use and Settings
Before welding, ensure the filter and protective plates are correctly positioned. Adjust the Shade (luminous gradation), Sensitivity, and Delay-time (if applicable) based on the welding current and procedure. Use the provided table in the manual to select the correct shade number for your specific welding process and current intensity.
Maintenance and Cleaning
- Replace the transparent protective plates if they are cracked, scratched, or deformed.
- Clean the filter surface and protective plates regularly with a soft cloth and non-aggressive cleaning solutions (e.g., window cleaner). Do not pour cleaner directly on the filter.
- Keep solar cells and sensors clean and free of dirt.
- Clean and disinfect the helmet using only water and soap or solvent-free products.
Troubleshooting
- Filter does not darken or is unstable: Clean the external protective plate and sensors. Increase sensitivity or check if the welding current is too low.
- Slow switching: Ensure the operating temperature is not below -5°C.
- Poor visibility: Clean or replace dirty/damaged protective plates or the filter. Ensure sufficient ambient light.
