This document provides essential instructions for the initial setup and manual priming of the Black Plus Decker 186086-B battery-powered backpack sprayer. Priming may be required when using the device for the first time or after extended storage if the pump runs but fails to spray water.

Safety and Precautions

• Always wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including goggles, gloves, and protective clothing to prevent chemical exposure.
• Ensure all chemicals are removed and the sprayer is cleaned before performing any maintenance.
• Release all pressure from the sprayer before attempting any disassembly to avoid high-speed ejection of components.

How to check if manual priming is needed

1. Fill the tank with approximately one gallon of water (no chemicals).
2. Install the battery and turn the sprayer ON.
3. Aim the shut-off in a safe direction and squeeze the trigger lever.
4. If water sprays, the pump is primed; turn the unit OFF and empty the tank.
5. If the pump runs but no water sprays, proceed to the manual priming procedure.

Manually priming the sprayer pump

1. Remove all liquid from the tank and rinse thoroughly.
2. Remove the red cylindrical filter by rotating it 1/8 turn counterclockwise and pulling it up.
3. Turn the power switch to ON (set to the highest setting if variable flow is available).
4. Squeeze and lock the trigger lever to keep the valve open.
5. Press and hold the end of a garden hose (without a nozzle) directly against the pump inlet where the red filter was located, ensuring a tight seal.
6. Spray water into the inlet while the pump is running. The sprayer should begin working within 10-20 seconds.
7. Once spraying starts, stop the hose, unlock the trigger, and turn the power OFF.
8. Reinstall the red filter before use.
