Quick guide for the Coleman 12-VOLT Power Chill Iceless Cooler, covering operation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and technical specifications.
Table of contents
Quick guide from the manual
The Coleman 12-VOLT Power Chill Iceless Cooler is designed to cool contents to 38°F to 42°F below the ambient temperature. It operates on 9.5 to 14.4 Volts DC. For optimal performance, pre-chill items before placing them in the cooler. Do not use ice, as melting water can damage the fan motor or cause frost buildup on internal aluminum fins.
Operating instructions
The cooler can be used in a horizontal or vertical position. If used vertically, ensure the cooling vent is at the top and remains unobstructed. The lid can be removed and reversed to change the opening direction by following the steps in the manual to release it from the hinge sockets.
- Power sources: Vehicle cigarette lighter (engine running), 12V battery charger (6-10A automatic or 6A non-automatic), or Coleman Power Supply (Model 2000000251).
- Continuous use: Do not operate for more than 4 hours when the vehicle engine is off to prevent battery drain.
- Heat generation: The unit generates heat and requires free air circulation. Never operate in hot, enclosed spaces like car trunks.
Cleaning and maintenance
Always unplug the unit before cleaning. Clean surfaces with a damp sponge and mild dishwashing solution. If cooling performance diminishes, defrost the unit by turning it off, leaving the lid open, and allowing it to thaw completely. Once a year, remove the vent cover and use a soft-bristled brush to remove lint and dirt from the fan blades and heat sink.
Troubleshooting
If the fan does not rotate, check the power cord connection and the fuse (Bussman #MDL-7-R). If the fan rotates but cooling is insufficient, ensure the unit is not in an enclosed space and that the cooling vent is not blocked. Defrost the unit if ice buildup is present.

Practical help
Common problems
Check if the power cord is fully inserted and inspect the fuse (Bussman #MDL-7-R) for burnout.
Ensure the cooler is not in an enclosed space, check for ice buildup on internal fins, and verify the power supply output is 12V DC.
Defrost the cooler by turning it off and leaving the lid open until all ice has melted.
Before use
- Pre-chill food and beverages in a home refrigerator.
- Ensure the cooling vent is not covered or obstructed.
- Verify the power source is between 9.5 and 14.4 Volts DC.
- Do not add ice to the cooler.
- If using a vehicle, ensure the engine is running to avoid battery drain.
Specs in practice
- Cooling Performance
- Cools 38°F to 42°F below the average surrounding temperature.
- Power Requirements
- 9.5 to 14.4 Volts DC; 4 Amperes at 12V DC nominal.
Model compatibility
- Use only the Coleman Power Supply (Item No. 2000000251) for 120V AC operation.
