This document provides operating instructions for the GÜDE GHS 1000 series log splitters. The machine is designed for splitting wood in the fiber direction. It must be operated by one person only. Ensure the machine is fully assembled before use and that the working area is flat, slip-resistant, and well-lit.

Assembly

The assembly process involves several steps:

• Unpack the machine and position it on a flat surface.
• Install the wheels as shown in the assembly diagrams.
• Attach the control arms and secure them properly.
• Ensure the splitting table is firmly and safely fitted to the machine.
• Check all screw connections for tightness.

Operation

Safety First: Always use the log fixing device (chain and spring) during every splitting process. Never reach into the splitting area.

• Starting: Ensure the machine is connected to a power source of the correct voltage (400V/50Hz for most models). Press the green start button.
• Splitting: Use the two-lever operation system. Push both control levers down to move the splitting knife. Once the knife enters the log (3-5 cm), release the log fixing device and continue the splitting process.
• Stopping: Press the red button on the switch to stop the machine.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is essential for safe operation:

• Oil Level: Regularly inspect the hydraulic oil level. Use DIN ISO HLP 44/46 oil.
• Hydraulic Hoses: Check hydraulic hoses and connections for leaks after approximately 4 hours of operation and tighten if necessary.
• Cleaning: Keep the machine clean. Do not use solvents or toxic liquids; use a damp cloth.
• Lubrication: Lubricate the splitting knife if it gets stuck.

Troubleshooting

If the machine fails to operate, check the following:

• Motor does not start: Check the fuse, the extension cable, and the connection.
• Splitting knife not moving: Adjust the two-hand control levers or contact service if the control valve is defective.
• No power: Check the rotation direction (for 400V models) or check the hydraulic oil level.
• Hydraulic pump noise: Check for oil leaks and ensure the oil level is sufficient.

Technical Data

The GHS 1000 series includes models with varying splitting pressures (10t to 20t) and motor power (3.7kW to 5.5kW). Refer to the technical data table in the manual for specific values for your model (GHS 1000/10TE-A, 14TE-A, 14TZ-A, 14TEZ-A, 20TEZ-A).

Safety

Always wear appropriate protective clothing, including sturdy shoes with non-slip soles, robust long trousers, gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection. Do not operate the machine if you are tired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Keep children and bystanders away from the working area.
