Quick guide from the manual

This document provides essential operating instructions for the Hitachi M 12V2 and M 12SA2 routers. Before use, ensure the power source matches the product nameplate. Always wear eye protection and keep hands away from rotating bits. Single-hand operation is dangerous; always use both handles.

Installing and removing bits

  1. Clean the bit shank and insert it into the collet chuck until it bottoms, then back it out approximately 2 mm.
  2. Press the lock pin to hold the armature shaft and tighten the collet chuck firmly with the 23 mm wrench in a clockwise direction.
  3. To remove, follow the installation steps in reverse.

Adjusting depth of cut

Place the tool on a flat surface. Turn the quick adjustment lever counterclockwise until it stops. Loosen the pole lock knob and adjust the stopper pole to contact the stopper block. Loosen the lock lever, press the tool body until the bit touches the surface, and tighten the lock lever. Align the depth indicator with the 0 graduation. Raise the tool to the desired depth and tighten the pole lock knob. Fine adjustment can be made using the fine adjustment knob.

Guiding the router

The router supports template guides for repetitive tasks. Install the template guide adapter using the centering gauge to ensure alignment. When using a template, remember that the finished product dimensions will differ from the template by the difference between the template guide radius and the bit radius.

Maintenance and inspection

  • Oiling: Occasionally apply machine oil to the sliding portions of the columns.
  • Mounting screws: Regularly inspect and tighten all mounting screws.
  • Motor: Keep the motor winding clean and free from oil or water.
  • Carbon brushes: Inspection and replacement must be performed only by a Hitachi Authorized Service Center.
