Quick guide from the manual

The Hygger HG172 Lite Aquarium Wave Maker is designed for freshwater, saltwater, and reef aquariums. It features a compact design with a powerful impeller and an external controller to adjust wave modes, flow rates, and frequencies. The device is suitable for glass thicknesses up to 3/8 inch (8 mm).

Installation

  1. Detach the magnetic holder from the pump body.
  2. Place the pump at least 3 inches (7.6 cm) underwater and secure it to the aquarium's outer glass using the magnetic holder.
  3. Connect the wave pump to the controller and the controller to the power adapter.
  4. Plug in the power adapter to start operation.

Controller Operation

The controller features an LED display and three buttons (M/FE, +, -).

  • M Button: Short press to cycle through four wave modes: 01 (Constant), 02 (Classic Pulse), 03 (Sine), 04 (Random).
  • Flow/Frequency Adjustment: Use the + and - buttons to adjust the flow rate (F01-F10) or frequency (P01-P10) depending on the selected mode.
  • Feed Time: Press and hold the M button to enter feeding countdown mode (FE9-FE1). Press and hold again to exit.

Safety and Maintenance

Important: The controller is not waterproof. Never allow the pump to run dry; it must be fully submerged at least 1 inch above the top edge to prevent damage and overheating. Always disconnect the power supply before performing maintenance or troubleshooting.

Cleaning: Disconnect the plug, remove the protective cover, and carefully clean the impeller and axle with a soft brush in clear water. Ensure all plug connections remain dry.

Troubleshooting

If the pump does not work, check for a blocked impeller, damaged power supply, or triggered motor protection. If the pump runs dry, an E04 error code will display. For E1-E3 errors (voltage/current issues), the controller may need replacement. Always ensure the water temperature does not exceed 35°C (95°F).

Check if water is dirty or if the temperature exceeds 35°C.

E04 Error Code

Indicates dry running. Submerge the pump completely in water.

Before use

  • Ensure the protective cover is installed on the pump.
  • Verify the aquarium glass thickness is 3/8 inch (8 mm) or less.
  • Confirm the power supply voltage matches the local requirements.
  • Ensure the controller is kept in a dry, non-humid location.
