Quick Start Guide
The Chord PT-12 is a chromatic pedal tuner designed for accurate instrument tuning. To begin, install the 9V battery or connect an external 9Vdc power supply. Connect your instrument to the input jack and your amplifier or signal chain to the output jack. Press the foot switch to activate the tuner; the output is muted while the tuner is active.
Controls and Connections

- 1. A4 frequency calibration button: Used to adjust the reference frequency.
- 2. Battery compartment: Houses the 9V battery.
- 3. Output jack: Connects to your amplifier or next pedal.
- 4. Backlit LCD display: Shows the detected note and tuning status.
- 5. DC power out: Allows daisy-chaining power to other pedals.
- 6. DC power in: Input for external 9Vdc power adapter.
- 7. Tuner on/off foot switch: Toggles the tuner active/bypass state.
- 8. Input jack: Connects to your instrument.
Power Supply
The PT-12 can be powered in two ways:
- 9V Battery: Remove the plastic cover on the underside to access the battery clip. Ensure the battery is securely connected.
- External Power: Use a 9Vdc power adaptor with centre-negative polarity. A rating of 100mA or higher is recommended.
Operation and Tuning
The tuner is permanently set to chromatic mode, capable of detecting notes between A0 (27.5Hz) and C8 (4186Hz). When the tuner is active, the display lights up. A virtual needle on the screen indicates tuning accuracy. When the note is in tune, the needle centers and the backlight changes to green.
Calibration
The default reference frequency for the A4 note is 440Hz. If you need to tune to instruments or tracks that are slightly off-standard, you can calibrate the A4 frequency between 430Hz and 450Hz using the rear push button.
Maintenance
To preserve battery life, unplug the guitar input jack when the pedal is not in use. If the pedal will not be used for an extended period, it is advised to remove the 9V battery to prevent leakage.

Common problems
Check that the 9V battery is installed correctly or that the external 9Vdc power adapter is properly connected and functioning.
Ensure the guitar input jack is unplugged when the pedal is not in use, as this preserves battery life.
Check the A4 calibration setting. Ensure it is set to the standard 440Hz unless you specifically need to tune to a different reference frequency (430-450Hz).
Before use
- Install a 9V battery or connect a 9Vdc power adapter.
- Verify the power adapter is centre-negative.
- Connect your instrument to the Input jack.
- Connect your amplifier or signal chain to the Output jack.
- Ensure the A4 calibration is set to 440Hz for standard tuning.
