This guide provides essential instructions for operating your Create Thera Retro espresso coffee machine. Always ensure the appliance is earthed and never operate it without water. The steam wand is extremely hot; handle with care to avoid burns.

Device Overview

The machine consists of a cup warming tray, control panel, steam knob, steam wand, water tank, drip tray, and anti-flood system. The control panel features a thermometer, steam button, coffee button, ON/OFF button, and indicators for coffee, power, and steam.

Before First Use

To ensure optimal performance, rinse the machine before first use:

  • Fill the water tank to the MAX line.
  • Place the filter in the filter holder without coffee.
  • Place a mug on the drip tray.
  • Plug in the machine and press the ON/OFF button.
  • Press the coffee button to pump water through the system.
  • Once water flows, press the coffee button again to stop.

Making Espresso

  1. Fill the filter with ground coffee using the measuring spoon and compress it with the tamper.
  2. Lock the filter holder into the machine by turning it anticlockwise.
  3. Ensure the steam knob is at the 0 position.
  4. Press the coffee button to start brewing.
  5. Press the coffee button again manually to stop brewing when the desired amount is reached.

Preparing a Cappuccino

  1. Prepare an espresso first.
  2. Press the steam button and wait for the yellow indicator light to turn on.
  3. Fill a pitcher with 100ml of milk.
  4. Insert the steam wand into the milk and turn the steam knob slowly anticlockwise.
  5. Froth the milk using circular motions.
  6. Turn the steam knob clockwise to stop.
  7. Pour the frothed milk over the espresso.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Unplug the machine and let it cool completely before cleaning. Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. Rinse the water tank, drip tray, and removable shelf. Do not use alcohol or solvent-based cleaners. Never wash the filter holder or filter in a dishwasher.

Descaling

Descale the machine every 1-2 months to maintain efficiency:

  1. Fill the tank with a 4:1 water-to-descaler solution to the MAX level.
  2. Follow the preheating process to run the solution through the machine.
  3. Brew two cups of descaler, then wait 5 seconds.
  4. Run the steam function for 2 minutes, then turn off the unit for 15 minutes.
  5. Repeat the process at least 3 times.
  6. Finally, repeat the process 3 times with clean tap water to rinse the system.

Tank is leaking or water seeping out
