Quick guide from the manual

The Ground Zero GZUC 165.3SQ is a 3-way component loudspeaker system designed for high-end sound quality. This manual covers both the standard GZUC 165.3SQ (which includes a crossover) and the GZUC 165.3SQ-ACT (designed for active applications without a crossover). For optimal performance, professional installation and tuning by a car audio specialist are recommended.

  • Never drill holes into the vehicle's gas tank, brake lines, or other critical vehicle parts.
  • Avoid routing wires over sharp edges to prevent damage.
  • Keep speaker wiring away from antennas and electronic devices to prevent radio interference.
  • Always separate power supply wiring from speaker wiring to avoid electrical disturbance.

Crossover setup (Standard model only)

The included crossover allows for fine-tuning of the sound output:

Crossover jumper settings for tweeter, midrange, and semi-active mode.
Crossover jumper settings for tweeter, midrange, and semi-active mode.
  • Tweeter level adjustment: Use the jumper to set the desired tweeter level.
  • Midrange level adjustment: Use the jumper to set the desired midrange level.
  • Semi-active use: If the midwoofer is connected to a separate amplifier, the midwoofer section of the crossover must be deactivated. Set the WF jumper to the OFF position.

Wiring configurations

The system supports different wiring setups depending on your amplifier configuration:

  • Standard Wiring: Connect the head unit/amplifier to the crossover input, and connect the midwoofer, midrange, and tweeter to their respective outputs on the crossover. Ensure the WF jumper is in the ON position.
  • Semi-active Wiring: Use a 4-channel amplifier with an integrated active crossover. Connect the midwoofer directly to the amplifier channels and the midrange/tweeter to the crossover. Set the crossover WF jumper to the OFF position.
  • ACT Wiring: The GZUC 165.3SQ-ACT model is designed for active applications where each driver is powered by a dedicated amplifier channel.

Noise damping

To achieve high-quality sound, it is essential to reduce vibrations in the car body and interior panels. Using insulation materials like aluminum-butyl or sound-absorbing foam mats helps reduce natural resonance and booming. Ground Zero offers the GZDM DOORKIT PRO for this purpose.

Safety instructions

  • Keep all packaging materials away from children and pets to avoid suffocation.
  • Avoid listening at extreme volume levels (over 85 dB) for extended periods to prevent hearing damage.
  • High-power systems can reach levels of 130 dB, which may distract from traffic noises.
  • Loudspeakers contain magnetized metals; dispose of them at a local recycling facility at the end of their life.
