MAF sensor installation
MAF sensor installation
  1. Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Allow the vehicle to sit for at least 5 minutes to drain residual charge.
  2. Remove the factory air duct from the top of the engine bay by removing the two 10mm bolts and the plastic tab.
  3. Remove the two 10mm bolts from the bracket on the front of the airbox and the two 10mm bolts holding the factory duct to the core support.
  4. Disconnect the MAF sensor harness.
  5. Use a 12" extension to remove the 10mm bolt on the right side of the airbox.
  6. Gently wiggle the factory airbox to remove it from the factory post mount.
  7. Install the new Airbox Mounting post with the M6x25mm bolt. Install Mounting Bracket A to the core support using factory 10mm bolts.
  8. Install Mounting Bracket B to the side of the airbox with the provided 10mm screws and seat the factory rubber grommet.
  9. Seat the PRL rubber grommet into the underside of the new airbox.
  10. Place the new airbox into the engine bay, seating it on the mounting posts, and tighten the 10mm bolt on the right side.
  11. Affix the new inlet duct to the airbox using the 3 plastic push rivets and attach it to the core support with factory 10mm bolts.
  12. Attach the 4" air filter to the MAF housing using the worm gear clamp.
  13. Attach the MAF housing to the airbox using the 3 provided 10mm screws. Do not over-tighten.
  14. Install the silicone intake hose and worm gear clamps onto the MAF housing and factory inlet. Adjust so the PRL logo faces upward and tighten clamps.
  15. Remove the factory MAF sensor from the old airbox and install it into the new MAF housing using the provided button cap screws. Re-attach the MAF harness.

Road testing

Start the vehicle with the transmission in neutral and the emergency brake engaged. Check for any issues, then perform a test drive to ensure everything is in working order.

Required maintenance

Visually inspect the air filter screen at every oil change. Clean the filter element when the screen is no longer visible or at a 30,000-mile interval. Use the #2801 Filter Cleaning & Recharge kit for maintenance. When cleaning, tap off excess debris, spray with cleaning solution, soak for 15 minutes, rinse from clean side to dirty side, allow to dry naturally, and re-oil using the supplied filter oil.

Practical help

Common problems

Bolt dropped in engine bay

Use a magnetic pickup tool to retrieve the bolt.

Insufficient clearance for side bolt

Remove the resonator from the factory hose by wiggling it back and forth until it comes free.

Cracking the rotomold material

Do not over-tighten screws when attaching the MAF housing or other components.

Electronic memory loss

Save memory settings before disconnecting the battery; some radios may require an anti-theft code upon reconnection.

Before use

  • Turn off ignition and disconnect negative battery terminal.
  • Wait at least 5 minutes for the system to drain.
  • Verify all components from the parts list are present.
  • Ensure you have a 10mm socket and 3"/12" extensions.
  • Save radio/electronic memory settings.

Specs in practice
