This guide provides instructions for installing the PRL Motorsports Short Ram Intake on 2016-2021 Honda Civic 1.5L Turbo vehicles. The installation takes approximately 20-30 minutes. Note: This item does not require an ECU re-calibration.
Required Tools
- Ratchet
- Extension (6 - 12" length)
- 10mm Socket
- Needle Nose Pliers
- Phillips-Head Screwdriver
- 3mm Hex Key
Before Beginning Your Installation

- Turn off the ignition.
- Loosen the battery terminal and disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Allow the vehicle to sit for at least 5 minutes to drain remaining charge.
- Note: Disconnecting the negative battery cable erases pre-programmed electronic memory. Save memory settings if necessary. Some radios may require an anti-theft code after reconnection.
Installation Steps

- Unclip the MAF Sensor, loosen the factory corrugated hose, and remove the factory air-box fully.
- Pinch the back of the MAF sensor clip firmly and pull straight away from the housing. Tuck it out of the way.
- Remove the two factory clamps holding the corrugated hose to the factory air-box. These will not be re-used.
- Remove the two Phillips head screws holding the MAF sensor into the factory MAF housing. These will not be re-used.
- Remove the MAF sensor from the factory airbox and install it into the PRL MAF housing using the supplied two M4 bolts.
- Attach the intake bracket using the two M6 bolts. The mounting spot is on the right side of the engine bay, near where the factory air-box was removed.
- Insert the M8 Rubber Vibration Damper and tighten the Serrated Flange nut to the underside of the grommet to lock it in place.
- Seat the MAF housing onto the Rubber Vibration Damper.
- Affix the PRL 4" Cone Air Filter and the PRL Silicone hose using the two provided worm gear clamps. Ensure they are tightly secured.
- Re-clip the MAF sensor harness into place and ensure all clamps are tightened fully.
Road Testing
- Start the vehicle with the transmission in neutral and the emergency brake engaged. Check for any issues.
- Test drive the vehicle to ensure everything is in working order.
Required Maintenance
Visually inspect the air filter screen inside the HVI at every oil change. Clean the air filter element whenever the screen is no longer visible or at a 30,000-mile interval. In dusty or arid climates, clean more often.
Filter Recharging Guide
- Pre-Cleaning: Tap the filter or use canned air/compressor to remove excess debris.
- Apply Cleaner: Spray the filter with the cleaning solution and let soak for at least 15 minutes.
- Rinsing: Rinse with warm water, clean side to dirty side.
- Drying: Allow to dry naturally. Avoid heat to prevent cotton shrinkage.
- Oil Application: Re-oil using the supplied filter oil. Use a single spray per 2" of filter media. Do not over oil.
