Quick Guide from the Manual

The SPL Crossover is a high-end active analog 2-way crossover designed to integrate subwoofers with top speakers. Before using the device, ensure the mains voltage (115V or 230V) is correctly set on the rear panel and the appropriate fuse is installed. The device features 120V Rail Technology for superior dynamic range and headroom.

Device Overview

The front panel provides controls for the LOW section (crossover frequency, phase, level, mono/stereo mode) and the MID-HI section (crossover frequency, roll-off). It also includes VU meters for level monitoring. The rear panel houses the audio inputs (XLR/RCA), outputs, mains power switch, voltage selector, and AMP CTL (12V trigger) ports.

Setup and Configuration

LOW Section

Use this section to manage your subwoofer integration. If using a 2.1 setup with a single subwoofer, set the Mono/Stereo switch to Mono to sum the left and right channels. The crossover frequency can be set between 50 Hz and 120 Hz using the X-OVER switch. The phase can be adjusted using the PHASE switch and potentiometer to time-align the subwoofer with your top speakers.

MID-HI Section

This section controls the top speakers. You can set the crossover frequency (50-120 Hz) and choose the roll-off slope between 12 dB (Butterworth) and 24 dB (Linkwitz/Riley) per octave. Setting the X-OVER switch to Off allows the input signal to pass to the MID-HI outputs without processing.

LOW CUT Filter

The LOW CUT switch engages a filter for frequencies below 20 Hz with a 12 dB per octave roll-off. This protects amplifiers from demanding low-frequency content that does not contain musical information.

AMP CTL (Amplifier Control)

The AMP CTL system uses a 12V trigger to remotely switch connected units between standby and operation. Connect the AMP CTL output of an SPL device to the Crossover's AMP CTL IN. The Crossover can trigger up to four power amplifiers simultaneously via its AMP CTL outputs. Use mono mini jack cables (1/8 inch, 3.5mm) where the tip is plus and the sleeve is minus.

Technical Specifications

The device operates with an internal voltage of +/- 60V DC. Power consumption is max 50 VA, with a standby consumption of less than 0.1 W. The unit weighs 5.4 kg (11.90 lbs) and measures 278 x 100 x 330 mm.

Practical help

Common problems

Subwoofer phase issues

Use the PHASE switch and PHASE potentiometer to time-align the subwoofer with your top speakers.

Remote power on/off not working

Check the AMP CTL connection. Ensure you are using mono mini jack cables (1/8 inch, 3.5mm) and that the trigger voltage is correctly applied.

Incorrect mains voltage

Verify the voltage setting on the rear panel (115V or 230V) and ensure the correct fuse (T 630mA for 230V, T 1.2A for 115V) is installed.

Before use

  • Verify the mains voltage setting (115V or 230V) on the rear panel.
  • Ensure the correct fuse is installed for the selected voltage.
  • Connect audio inputs (XLR or RCA) and outputs.
  • Set the Mono/Stereo switch based on your subwoofer configuration.
  • Connect the power cable and switch on the unit.

Specs in practice

VOLTAiR Technology
Proprietary 120V rail technology that provides high dynamic range and headroom.
Linkwitz/Riley
A crossover filter design providing a 24 dB per octave roll-off.
