Quick guide from the manual

The Taco 0026e is a high-efficiency, variable speed circulator designed for hydronic heating, chilled water cooling, and domestic hot water systems. It features 5 operating settings: TacoAdapt, LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH, and 0-10V DC input. Important: Never run the circulator dry, as this can cause permanent damage. The system must be filled with water or a maximum 50% propylene-glycol solution before operation. If installing at elevations over 5000 feet, the fill pressure must be at least 20 psi to prevent cavitation.

Installation

The circulator can be installed on the supply or return side of the boiler, but it should always pump away from the expansion tank. The motor must be mounted in a horizontal position. Use the provided O-ring gaskets; do not use flat rubber gaskets. If mounting to wall or floor joists, use vibration dampeners to reduce noise transmission.

Wiring

Disconnect the AC power supply before wiring. Use flexible conduit only; do not use rigid conduit. Remove the terminal box cover and connect the Line/Hot power to the L terminal, Neutral to the N terminal, and Ground to the G terminal. The unit is double insulated, so the grounding wire is recommended for safety but not strictly necessary. Replace the terminal box cover and use the provided rubber cap to cover any unused knockout holes.

Operating Modes

The circulator performance is modified by rotating the dial using a flat screwdriver. The LED color indicates the current mode:

  • TacoAdapt (Violet LED): Automatic, self-adjusting, proportional pressure, variable speed.
  • LOW (Orange LED): 8 feet of head constant pressure, variable speed.
  • MEDIUM (Orange LED): 16 feet of head constant pressure, variable speed.
  • HIGH (Blue LED): 26 feet of head max, full fixed speed.
  • 0-10V DC (Yellow LED): Analog external input or PWM pulse width modulation from a building control system.

External Control

For 0-10V DC or PWM signal connections, remove the four screws fixing the motor cover, unscrew the signal output cap, and remove the green terminal plug. Insert the cable through the M12x1.5 cable gland (not supplied), strip the wire ends, and secure them into the connector. Reconnect the terminal plug and secure the motor cover.

Troubleshooting

If the circulator is locked or sticking, a red LED will indicate the fault. The pump will automatically attempt to restart 100 times over approximately 15 minutes. If it fails to start, perform the manual unlocking procedure: disconnect power, close isolating valves, remove the motor bolts, pull the rotor/impeller from the motor, clean any impurities, and reassemble.

Maintenance

The circulator is designed for maintenance-free operation, but the impeller and casing should be kept free of foreign matter. If the system is new, it is good practice to flush it before starting the circulator.

Practical help

Common problems

Circulator is noisy

Check for insufficient suction pressure (cavitation) or foreign bodies in the impeller. Increase suction pressure or clean the impeller.

Loud noises of water circulation

Air in the system. Vent the system and repeat fill and purge steps.

Circulator not running (LED off)

Check for lack of power supply, tripped circuit breaker, or defective unit.

Red LED illuminated

Rotor is blocked. Perform the automatic release process (power cycle) or manual unlocking procedure.

Before use

  • Ensure the system is filled with water or a maximum 50% propylene-glycol solution.
  • Verify installation elevation; if over 5000 ft, fill pressure must be at least 20 psi.
  • Ensure the motor is mounted in a horizontal position.
  • Use flexible conduit for electrical connections.
  • Flush the system of foreign matter before starting.
  • Ensure the expansion tank pressure is adjusted to equal the fill pressure.
