Quick guide from the manual
The Taco 007e-2ECM is a variable speed, high-efficiency wet rotor circulator designed for hydronic systems. Key operational requirements include horizontal motor mounting, proper system filling before operation to prevent dry running, and the use of flexible conduit for electrical connections. The unit features an integrated LED display for status and error diagnostics, and a Green Mode for optimized power consumption.
Description and Application
The 007e-2ECM is designed for closed-loop hydronic systems zoned with circulators or zone valves. It is not suitable for open-loop potable water or chilled water systems. It is compatible with water or a maximum 50% water/glycol solution. Maximum operating pressure is 125 psi (8.6 bar) and maximum water temperature is 230°F (110°C).
Installation
Location: The circulator can be installed on the supply or return side of the boiler but should always pump away from the expansion tank.
Mounting: The motor must be mounted in a horizontal position. If necessary, the pump casing can be rotated to change flow direction. To rotate the casing, remove the 4 motor screws, spin the casing to the desired orientation, and reattach the screws. Do not detach the motor housing from the casing during this process to avoid damaging the O-ring.
Filling the System: The system must be filled with water or a water/glycol solution before operating the circulator. Bearings are water-lubricated and must not run dry. It is recommended to flush a new system of foreign matter before starting.
Wiring
The circulator is double-insulated and does not require a ground wire. Use flexible conduit only. Connect Line/Hot power to the black lead and neutral to the white lead. Ensure the terminal box cover is replaced securely after wiring.
Operation and Green Mode
The circulator features an LED display. An orange LED indicates the unit is powered on. After 7 days of constant circulation, the unit automatically enters Green Mode (low proportional pressure) for power optimization, indicated by a green LED. When the unit cycles off, it resets to the original Normal Mode curve.
Troubleshooting and Error Codes
If the circulator malfunctions, check the LED status:
- LED on (Noisy): Check for insufficient suction pressure (cavitation) or foreign bodies in the impeller.
- Flashing white LED: Air in the system. Vent the system and repeat fill/purge steps.
- LED off: Check power supply, circuit breaker, or potential overheating.
- LED red: Rotor is blocked. Perform the unlocking procedure.
Unlocking Procedure
If the LED is red, the circulator is locked. The unit will attempt an automatic release process (100 attempts over 15 minutes). If this fails, perform the manual procedure:
- Disconnect power supply.
- Close isolating valves and allow cooling. Drain system if necessary.
- Loosen 4 motor bolts and remove the motor from the casing.
- Carefully pull the rotor/impeller from the motor.
- Remove impurities and deposits from the impeller and casing.
- Reinsert the rotor/impeller into the motor.
- Reconnect power and check for rotation.
Practical help
Common problems
Check for cavitation (increase suction pressure) or foreign bodies in the impeller (disassemble and clean).
System is air-bound. Vent the system and repeat fill and purge steps.
Verify power supply, check for tripped circuit breaker, or allow the pump to cool down if overheating occurred.
Rotor is blocked. Allow automatic release process to finish or perform the manual unlocking procedure.
Before use
- Flush the system of foreign matter.
- Ensure the motor is mounted in a horizontal position.
- Fill the system with water or 50% glycol solution before starting.
- Use flexible conduit for wiring.
- Verify that the power supply matches the nameplate data.
- Ensure vibration dampeners are used if mounting to wall or floor joists.
