Quick guide from the manual

The Taco 0034ePlus is a high-performance, variable-speed, wet-rotor circulator with an ECM motor and digital LED display. It is designed for large residential and light commercial hydronic heating, chilled water cooling, and domestic hot water systems. The pump features five operating modes: TacoAdapt, Constant Pressure, Proportional Pressure, Variable Fixed Speed, and 0-10V DC input.

Installation and mounting

The circulator can be installed on the supply or return side of the boiler, but for best performance, it should always pump away from the expansion tank. Important installation requirements:

  • The motor must be mounted in a horizontal position.
  • Use only the provided O-ring gaskets; do not use flat rubber gaskets.
  • Add vibration dampeners to piping when mounting to wall or floor joists.
  • Installations at elevations over 5000 feet (1600 meters) require a minimum fill pressure of 20 psi to prevent cavitation.
  • The system must be filled with tap water or a maximum 50% propylene-glycol solution before operating.

Wiring

Disconnect the AC power supply before wiring. Use flexible conduit only. The circulator features a removable green terminal plug to simplify wiring. Connect Line/Hot power to the L terminal, Neutral to the N terminal, and Ground to the G terminal. For 0-10V DC operation, follow the specific instructions for external signal connection provided in the manual.

Programming modes

The circulator performance is modified using the keypad. When powered on, the LED illuminates and changes color based on the selected mode:

  • TacoAdapt (Violet LED): Automatic, self-adjusting, proportional pressure, variable speed.
  • Constant Pressure (Orange LED): 5 curve settings of constant pressure.
  • Proportional Pressure (Green LED): 5 curve settings of proportional pressure.
  • Fixed Speed (Blue LED): Variable fixed speed settings (1-100%).
  • 0-10V DC (Yellow LED): Analog external input or PWM pulse width modulation.

To change the mode, press the SET button for 2 seconds until the LED flashes, use the UP/DOWN buttons to select the mode, and press SET to confirm.

Troubleshooting and unlocking

The circulator includes diagnostic error codes displayed on the LED screen. If the pump is locked or sticking, a red LED will appear. The pump will automatically attempt to restart 100 times over 15 minutes. If it remains locked, perform the manual unlocking procedure:

  1. Disconnect power supply.
  2. Close isolating valves and allow the pump to cool.
  3. Loosen the 4 motor bolts and remove the motor from the casing.
  4. Carefully pull the rotor/impeller from the motor.
  5. Remove impurities and deposits from the impeller and casing.
  6. Reinsert the rotor/impeller, reconnect power, and check for rotation.

Technical menu

To access the technical menu, press the UP and DOWN buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds until 'tECH' appears. Use the SET button to select parameters (T0 to T15) to view data such as firmware version, pump head, working hours, and various counters.

Practical help

Common problems

Circulator is noisy (cavitation)

Increase the system suction pressure within the permissible range.

Loud noises of water circulation

Vent the system to remove air; repeat fill and purge steps.

Circulator not running (LED off)

Verify power supply, check for tripped circuit breaker, or check motor connections.

Rotor is blocked (Red LED)

Disassemble the motor and clean the impeller; follow the manual unlocking procedure.

Before use

  • Verify supply voltage matches the data on the nameplate.
  • Ensure the pump is mounted with the motor in a horizontal position.
  • Flush the new system to remove foreign matter before starting.
  • Ensure the system is filled with water or 50% glycol solution before operation.
  • Use vibration dampeners if mounting to wall or floor joists.
