Quick guide from the manual

The BEGA 12143P is an indoor ceiling and wall luminaire equipped with an integrated HF motion sensor. Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician. The luminaire features a bayonet closure for the synthetic diffuser and requires specific settings for the motion sensor to operate correctly. Key settings include brightness, dwell time, and sensitivity, which can be adjusted using the integrated push-buttons on the sensor.

Product Description

The luminaire consists of a metal housing and an impact-resistant synthetic diffuser (IK10). It includes an integrated HF motion sensor (5.8 GHz) with a maximum range of 10 meters. The unit is protected by a BEGA Thermal Switch to prevent overheating and is compliant with DIN EN 61547 for overvoltage protection.

Safety

Installation and operation are subject to national safety regulations. Only qualified electricians should perform installation and commissioning. The manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by improper use or installation. If modifications are made, the person performing them is considered the manufacturer.

Installation

Important: LED components are sensitive. Avoid touching the light output surface during installation.

  1. Pass the mains supply cable through the grommet into the luminaire housing.
  2. Fix the housing to the mounting surface using the provided or suitable fixing material. Use the enclosed gaskets.
  3. Dismantle the mains cable approx. 60 mm.
  4. Pull silicone sleeves over the wires.
  5. Make the earth and electrical connections to the terminals.
  6. Place the synthetic diffuser on the housing, ensuring cam pins fit into the notches.
  7. Secure the diffuser by turning it clockwise.

If using an optional trim ring, the luminaire housing must be inserted into the ring before mounting.

Motion Sensor Settings

The sensor has three integrated push-buttons: Brightness, Dwell time, and Sensitivity. The first press activates the setting function. Subsequent presses cycle through levels, confirmed by the LED indicator flashing.

Sensitivity (Range)

Adjusts the detection range. Level 1 (20%) to Level 5 (100%).

Dwell Time

Adjusts how long the light stays on after motion is detected. Levels range from 15 seconds (Level 1) to 1800 seconds (Level 7).

Brightness

Adjusts the ambient light threshold. Levels include Daylight, 300 lx, 150 lx, Twilight, Darkness, and Teach-in mode (Level 6).

Test Mode and Factory Reset

Test Mode: Activate by pressing the Sensitivity button for >3 seconds. The LED flashes (2s interval). The mode automatically disables after 3 minutes.

Factory Reset: Simultaneously press the Sensitivity and Dwell time buttons for 5 seconds to restore factory settings (Range 75%, Dwell time 900s, Light sensor: Daylight).

Maintenance and Replacement

The LED unit can be replaced by qualified persons. Disconnect from the main supply before servicing. Unscrew the synthetic diffuser counter-clockwise to access the LED unit. Ensure replacement units match the original specifications.

Practical help

Common problems

Motion sensor range is reduced.

Ensure no metal parts are mounted in close proximity to the luminaire, as these can interfere with the HF sensor.

Luminaire does not turn on or off as expected.

Check the brightness threshold setting. If set to 'Darkness', it will not turn on in daylight. Use the 'Teach-in' mode to calibrate to current ambient light.

Settings not saved.

After adjusting parameters, the module requires a voltage break (power cycle) to save the changes.

Before use

  • Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician.
  • Verify supply voltage is 230V, 50Hz.
  • Use the enclosed gaskets during mounting.
  • Ensure silicone sleeves are pulled over the wires before connecting to terminals.
  • Check that the synthetic diffuser is locked by turning it clockwise.

Specs in practice

BEGA Thermal Switch
