Quick guide from the manual

The Bosch GNA 18V-16 Professional is a cordless nibbler designed for cutting sheet metal without deformation. It is suitable for straight cuts, cutouts, and tight-radius curves. Key operational requirements include regular lubrication of the punch and die, and ensuring the tool is not used in a stationary setup.

Product description

The tool consists of the following main components:

  • (1) Battery
  • (3) On/Off switch
  • (4) Die holder screw
  • (7) Die holder
  • (8) Punch
  • (9) Die
  • (11) Die knurled screw

Operation

Battery installation: Slide the charged battery into the base of the tool until it locks. To remove, press the release button.

Switching on/off: Slide the switch (3) forward to turn the tool on (symbol I) and backward to turn it off (symbol 0).

Changing cutting direction: The die holder (7) can be rotated in 90-degree increments. Loosen the screw (4), rotate the holder to the desired position, and retighten the screw securely.

Working advice

  • Lubrication: To extend the life of the punch (8), apply a lubricant with good cooling properties (e.g., cutting oil) along the planned cutting line.
  • Cutting: Hold the tool perpendicular to the sheet metal. Do not tilt the tool. Guide it with a light, even feed.
  • Overload protection: If the tool is overloaded or the battery temperature is too high, the stroke rate will automatically reduce or the tool will switch off. If it switches off, turn it off completely and allow the battery to cool down before restarting.
  • Curves and templates: For straight cuts, use a guide rail. For cutouts, pre-drill a 21 mm hole.

Maintenance and cleaning

Cleaning and lubrication: Clean and lubricate the punch (8) and die (9) every 3 hours of operation. Always remove the battery before performing any maintenance or changing accessories.

Replacing parts: If the punch or die becomes worn, replace them immediately to ensure good cutting quality and prevent damage to the tool. Do not sharpen the punch or die.

Practical help

Common problems

Tool stops automatically during operation

Thermal overload protection has been triggered. Turn the tool off and allow the battery to cool down.

Punch gets stuck in the material

Stop immediately. Do not use force. Lubricate the punch and free the sheet metal.

Poor cutting quality or rough edges

The punch or die is likely worn. Replace both parts to restore performance.

Before use

  • Ensure the battery is fully charged.
  • Check that the punch and die are clean and properly lubricated.
  • Verify the die holder is securely locked in the desired cutting direction.
  • Wear protective gloves and safety glasses.
  • Ensure the workpiece is stable and not clamped in a stationary vise.
