Quick guide from the manual
This document provides essential operating instructions for the Bosch UniversalDrill 18V-60 and UniversalImpact 18V-60 cordless drill/drivers. It covers safety, assembly, operation, and maintenance. Always ensure the battery is removed before performing any maintenance or tool changes to prevent accidental activation.
Device Description
The tools are designed for driving and loosening screws and for drilling in wood, metal, ceramic, and plastic. The UniversalImpact 18V-60 model is additionally designed for impact drilling in brick.
Assembly and Charging
The battery is supplied partially charged. Charge it fully in a compatible Bosch charger before first use. To remove the battery, press the release button and pull it backward. The battery charge indicator (9) shows the charge level when the on/off switch (11) is pressed.
Operation
Tool Change: The drill spindle is locked when the on/off switch is not pressed. Open the keyless chuck (2) by turning in the direction of rotation 1, insert the tool, and tighten the chuck sleeve firmly by hand in direction 2.
Direction of Rotation: Use the rotational direction switch (10) to change the direction. Set to the middle position to prevent accidental starting.
Speed and Torque: Speed is controlled by the pressure applied to the on/off switch (11). Torque can be preselected in 20 stages using the torque presetting ring (3).
Operating Modes: Use the operating mode presetting ring (4) on the UniversalImpact 18V-60 to select between screwdriving, drilling, and impact drilling.
Maintenance
Keep the tool and ventilation slots clean for safe and efficient operation. For repairs or spare parts, contact an authorized Bosch service center.

Practical help
Common problems
Check battery charge level. If the 3 LEDs on the battery indicator flash quickly, the battery temperature is outside the operating range (-30 to +65°C) or the overload protection has been triggered.
After prolonged work at low speeds, run the tool at maximum speed without load for approximately 3 minutes to cool it down.
Before use
- Ensure the battery is fully charged.
- Set the rotational direction switch to the middle position to prevent accidental activation.
- Select the correct gear (I for high torque/screwdriving, II for high speed/drilling).
- Select the appropriate operating mode (screwdriving, drilling, or impact drilling for UniversalImpact model).
- Ensure the tool bit is securely tightened in the keyless chuck.
Specs in practice
- Max. torque (hard/soft)
- Indicates the maximum force for screwdriving applications; higher values allow for driving larger screws.
- No-load speed (1st/2nd gear)
- 1st gear provides lower speed with higher torque; 2nd gear provides higher speed for smaller drilling diameters.
Model compatibility
- Compatible with Bosch 18V PBA series batteries.
- Not compatible with AL 1814 CV, AL 1820 CV, AL 1860 CV, or AL 2215 CV chargers.
