This document provides essential instructions for the Canon RF 135mm F1.8 L IS USM lens. Before use, ensure your camera firmware is updated to the latest version by checking the official Canon website. Always handle the lens with care, avoid direct sunlight exposure, and protect the contacts from dirt or scratches.

Attaching and Detaching the Lens

To attach the lens, align the lens mount index on the lens with the index on the camera and turn clockwise until it clicks. To detach, press the camera's lens release button and turn the lens counterclockwise. Always turn the camera power off before changing lenses and attach the dust cap immediately after removal.

Setting the Focus Mode

Use the focus mode switch on the side of the lens to toggle between AF (Autofocus) and MF (Manual Focus). Note that the focusing ring is electronic; turning it too quickly may result in delayed focus. Manual focus is possible in AF modes if the camera settings allow for electronic full-time manual focus.

Control Ring

The control ring can be customized via the camera menu to adjust settings like aperture or shutter speed. The clicking sensation provides tactile feedback while turning. If desired, the clicking mechanism can be removed by a Canon Service Center for a fee.

Lens Function Buttons

By default, these buttons act as AF stop buttons. Pressing them during autofocus temporarily pauses the focus, which is useful for maintaining a specific distance or avoiding focus search, especially in Servo AF mode. These buttons can be reassigned in the camera's custom button settings.

Image Stabilizer

Set the stabilizer switch to ON to enable image stabilization. It is recommended to turn it OFF when using a tripod. The stabilizer is effective for hand-held shots in low light, situations where flash is prohibited, or for panning shots of moving subjects.

Hood

The custom lens hood reduces flare and protects the front element. Align the red attachment mark on the hood with the red dot on the lens and turn until it clicks. The hood can be reverse-mounted for storage.

Filters

The lens accepts 82mm filters. Only one filter should be attached at a time. If using a circular polarizing filter, remove the lens hood before making adjustments.
